Hi all,
Has anyone got any ideas of Fedora / Flock merch that we could get made with the view of possibly selling it at flock?
we need ideas of stuff that will sell, so obscure stuff like fedora branded dog collars should be avoided.
a few ideas i had were:
* Mugs * Laptop Skins * Lanyards * USB drives
cheers, ryanlerch

The Red Hat branded cigarette-lighter->USB plugs are among the most popular swag I've been given to give out at conferences.
I would also love to see some stuff with the Fedora Cloud logo.
And, maybe I'm alone in this, but I would actually buy prints of the Fedora release artwork over the years.
Hey!
At IRC Nitesh also drop the idea of keychains and the print idea is quite cool; probably we could do a poster size print with all the releases artwork.

From my perspective selling things to Fedora contributors that we
freely give away to random people at other events just doesn't feel right. We have given FUDCon attendees lanyards in the past and we probably have enough leftover Fedora branded USB sticks from the Red Hat Summit to give every Flock attendee one if we think that is a good use of the leftovers (which I do).
So what do I think would be reasonable merchandise to sell to Fedora contributors? Probably the sorts of items we typically can't produce and give away due to cost. The hoodies that Ruth distributed in the past are wonderful and other Fedora branded apparel (excluding t-shirts) would fall into one category of items I think would be well suited to this. Fedora branded backpacks and/or other sorts of bags might be another.

I understand this, and the purpose of this thread was not to imply that we are going tp stop giving away the free stuff, but more just an exploration of the items we could produce. I would definitely pay money for an few extra fedora lanyards or higher capacity fedora branded USB drive (even if i get both of these for free in the swag bag) I would especially have no issues spending this extra cash if proceeds went into helping fund getting contributors to flock itself!

So now I'm getting the impression we might be charging contributors more than the items cost to raise money for some purpose?! I don't see how that purpose could be attendance at Flock since we won't know how much will be raised until after the items are sold at Flock.
Probably the design list isn't the place to ask but since you seem to know more than anyone else I've asked what is your understanding of the purpose of selling items to contributors beyond letting contributors get merchandise they would like to have? Is it to raise money? Who exactly is doing the selling? Do we need to deal with local tax collection? Do we need any sort of license to sell merchandise in South Carolina? Needless to say I have concerns about this process.

You are reading too much into this. as i stated before, this thread was merely intended to be "just an exploration of the items we could produce"

The purpose of this thread was purely to start a brainstorm of ideas for swag items, and i assumed the creative minds on the design-team list would be able to help me out with some ideas. (which they have brilliantly so far)
Is it to raise money? Who exactly is doing the selling? Do we need to deal with local tax collection? Do we need any sort of license to sell merchandise in South Carolina? Needless to say I have concerns about this process.
The previous comment i made "I would especially have no issues spending this extra cash if proceeds went into helping fund getting contributors to flock itself!" was purely my personal opinion as a Fedora contributor, that IF there was swag to buy, and IF the proceeds went to getting more contributors to the conference, i would have no qualms about it.

Ok, sorry I started jumping to conclusions. Back to the brainstorming!

I've done this a number of times. You can buy a higher capacity swivel usb stick in your favorite color and swap the swivel from one of the little Fedora branded sticks you already have. Presto, an affordable high capacity Fedora branded USB stick! I wonder if we could just get the swivels made somewhere without the USB sticks now that I think about it.

Laptops skins is the only one there that stands out to me; it seems like the other three are in such abundance that people would be less likely to pay for them (I have too many mugs -- my family would throw it away!)
There was a cool "Fedora <3 Python" design for a hoodie that was supposed to be at our booth at PyCon US 2013 but I guess there was some issue with the vendor and they never got made. I would totally pay for one of those.
Hopefully helpful- -Ralph
I like the idea for laptop skins and USB drives. I assume we are talking about pre-loaded Fedora USB drives, and not blank USB drives... We'll be able to compete with Ubuntu! :) I would definitely buy a laptop skin or USB drive.
