Hi all, I'm just starting this thread because I'm starting to work on the default F25 wallpaper (I wasn't sure if this specific conversation fit into any of the prexisting conversations). I know that the general inspiration for this wallpaper should be a progressive innovator/ inventor whose name begins with "A". After much research, the names that popped up the most frequently that fit our criteria were Archimedes and Richard Arkwright. Here's a *very* brief bio on each of them as well as what I would use as a visual inspiration for the wallpaper: Archimedes: a mathematician, involved in the invention/ development of levers and pulleys, invented the Archimedean screw --> abstract spiralized screw/ implying motion Arkwright: the debated 'father of industrial revolution", pioneer in the spinning industry --> wheel- inspired wallpaper I will be posting more specifics to my design ideas as well as links to wallpaper drafts for you all to look at and provide feedback on. Thanks and cheers to Fedora 25 *clinks glasses*!
Hi!
(Just as some background, I asked Mary to look for some inventors with A and think about some visual ideas at the end of last week before gnokii sent out the survey!)
So it looks like Archimedes is on the survey as well - seems like he might be a good choice as you guys both independently came up with him. Can you vote on the survey? it's here: https://goo.gl/forms/kUezxe9cedtHqpX62
Sorry for the confusion around this - we actually don't have a luxury of time here which is why I think we're all been scrambling on thiss.
Should we add Arkwright to the survey or just go with it?

think that would not help
I think the voting is done. See attachment, there have some ppl voted where I never heard the FAS name, in consequence I will send next time off-list to design team members only.
So Archimedes, is the way to go. So you have one day until next regular meetings to find ideas, what could represent it. I trying to fix this afternoon, the alpha banner, so that we are not the blocker for F25 alpha.

Hey gnokii, glad to hear Archimedes is the route you're doing with as that's the inspiration I've been playing with too for this wallpaper. I'm looking into inspiration images today, so we'll have them for tomorrow's meeting.
I've got three, still quite rough, drafts that I've put together since the discucssion yesterday about incorporating natural elements and fractal-like artwork. I wasn't sure how to attach files through this thread directly, so here's a link to my blog where I posted about the wallpaper. So feel free to take a look at this: https://marygraphicdesigns.wordpress.com/2016/08/26/f25-wallpaper/
Hi!
The fourth attempt is very nice. But the third is also beautiful.
Cheers, Sylvia
Hi Sylvia! The fourth seems to be a popular preference (and my personal preference as well) so it looks like we're headed in a good direction. I'll be posting some more updates this week too with new updates to those ideas as well as some new concepts to consider as well.
Just a quick update about what's being looked into right now for this wallpaper: Discovered a REALLY cool tool that's built right into GIMP called Fractal Explorer, and for a wallpaper with a mathematician inspiration this might be good for us! You can access the tool once you have a new, preferably blank, GIMP layer by selecting "Render" under the "Filters" tab and then choosing "Fractal Explorer" from there! I've "explored" quite a few different looks created with this tool and once I'm a little farther along, I'll be sure to share them here. If anyone else gives the tool a try and comes up with something interesting, I'd love to see it!
Hey Mary
I had a play around with that Fractal Explorer tool, here's something I came up with. It's very rough, but shows what you can do with this tool.

Cool, thanks Kathryn! I came up with some things similar to that, that really imply that screw-like/ spiral sort of look that we were trying for
Made some more progress and have a couple more iterations that I updated on the link https://marygraphicdesigns.wordpress.com/2016/08/26/f25-wallpaper/ (same post as before but if you scroll down towards the bottom you will see "Design Round 2" and that's where I've updated my progress). While still not perfect, I think that these are headed in the right direction in terms of the general concept. Thanks for all the helpful feedback and ideas so far :)
From the second round I like the "fractals attempt 2". But I rather prefer those I mentioned before ones.
Cheers, Sylvia

Hi,
I dont like the fractals that much, they are so ¨90is¨ stylish, I like Ryans approach which he showed in the APAC meeting more.
