I encourage you to do this the open source way: Brian publish his 
sources (It looks like GIMP considering the flares, so an .xcf) and you 
take an play with them, trying to improve.

I know is only a mockup, so pretty much a sketch, but for me it look now 
like a bright blob in the middle of nothing. The black is too black, it 
should have some texture (some stars?) and the transition to the galaxy 
is very sudden.
Also, the flares are too standard, they are default, not customized values.

Hello to all! and happy (almost) new year.

This is a really interesting idea, but I still feel the background is to
empty and black. Try adding a full sky and add your siluete (not at the
middle of the image) but maybe somewhere at the right.

This will help the wallpaper to make esay the icon ussage.

For what it's worth, RHL may have trouble signing off on a wallpaper that uses 
the Fedora logo, even if obscured, or as a resemblance, in such a way...

Why?
The wallpapers in Fedora 5, 6 and 7 used to have the logo. It was a 
conscious decision of our team to keep the logo away from wallpapers to 
encourage reuse of the wallpapers by not interfering with trademarks.

Right, but those sorts of uses need to be approved by the board as enforcers
of the trademark.

That being said, as a non-lawyer... if that's a raw photo of the nebula,
I suspect it may qualify for prior art w.r.t. trademarks.
