tracker
by Chris Murphy
Hi,
I don't often have to compile things, but today compiling a kernel and
I see tracker-* stuff soaking the CPU at 100% for several of these
things and piles of messages in the journal.
Is there a way to tweak this by default? Maybe have it only index when
the computer isn't being used? Maybe not at all when so many temporary
changes are happening all at the same time like during compiling? I
shouldn't have to know to create an embargoed area within my home
directory to keep this tracker thing from going nuts like this. If I
should file an upstream RFE let me know what component to set it
against, the default behavior is not friendly in my opinion - kinda
reminds me of OS X Spotlight.
Thanks,

Upgrades to F24 via dnf
by Michael Catanzaro
Hi,
Seems my effort to deduplicate @gnome-desktop and @fedora-workstation
got reverted again, because it breaks upgrades from F23 -> F24 via dnf
when @gnome-desktop is not installed, which is the expected and default
case. dnf wants to remove all of GNOME because it's no longer present
in @fedora-workstation, and @gnome-desktop is not already installed.
I don't think we want to continue to maintain these groups separately,
it leads to many "bugs" (unexpected differences) between the two
groups, with developers accidentally editing one but not the other. So:
does anyone have any suggestions to avoid this problem?
The best solution I could come up with is to simply tell users to 'sudo
dnf install @gnome-desktop' before upgrading with dnf, and list this on
the known problems wiki page. Since gnome-software is now our default
and expected method for upgrading Fedora Workstation, I think it's OK
for there to be some hiccups when upgrading with dnf, but it would
still be really nice to have some way to handle this automatically...
could we somehow make the one group depend on the other, for instance?
How does gnome-software handle this issue?

outside how we build Fedora itself (stickster, 15:29:48)

Call for agenda for Workstation WG meeting 2016-Mar-02
by Paul W. Frields
First, I apologize for this late email. For a number of reasons both
family-related and dayjob-related, I've been quite behind this past
week, which is why the agenda's late.
The Workstation WG meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday,
2016-Mar-02 at 1500 UTC (10:00 EST, 15 UTC, 16:00 CEST). This agenda
is open for additions/corrections; please send by tomorrow at 14 UTC.
* PulseAudio flat volumes -- solicit remaining +/-1 if not found on
list yet
* User marketing of Wayland
re: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/desktop@lists.fedoraproject...
* * *
Something not on this list yet is to discuss the concept (and perhaps
implementation?) of third party repo support. We've made several
strides recently such as OpenH264 and with COPRs that somewhat change
the way we can offer additional content to users. But we don't yet
have an overarching, strategy based on solid justification that we can
sell and pursue in Workstation and beyond.
I was hoping we could broach that in this meeting, but I don't think
we can do it justice in remaining time. I'd rather call an off-week
session to discuss if people are open to that. Christian has done
some writing on this and it would be good to get that onto a wiki page
and discuss, so we can move toward ratifying/promoting it at the WG
level. I need to spend some additional time reviewing the writeup too
-- which goes back to my time issues I indicated at top.
So would anyone object to my setting up an additional time to look at
the topic, say next Wed 10am EST/15 UTC?
