What does delaying F31 mean for packagers/users?
by Owen Taylor
One of the key parts of making a decision to delay/skip F31 is
figuring out, ahead of the decision, what the expected experience is
for users and packagers. Does F30 have normal stability, or do we try
to keep users happy by moving things forward with ad-hoc updates and
cross-our-fingers and hope nothing breaks?
I tend to think about this in terms of GNOME - would we rebase to
GNOME 3.34 in the middle of F30 or not? But there's a lot of other
pieces of software where similar considerations apply: container
tools, cockpit, NetworkManager, etc.
And if we did do updates like that, would we consider respinning media
and making a "F30.1"?

Integrating howdy, a Windows Hello like into GDM?
by Luya Tshimbalanga
Hello team,
Since owning the HP Envy x360 Convertible from last month, with the help
of both Hans and Peter Hutterer, we managed to improve a better
touchscreen and stylus experience on that hardware. As written on my
blog
(https://blog.thefinalzone.net/2018/11/enable-stylus-settings-on-hp-envy-x...),
it would be nice to integrate a Windows Hello type authentication into
the login screen similar to Windows 10 or Samsung Galaxy S9 series using
iris authentication.
I have already packaged in the COPR repository
(https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/luya/howdy/) and would like
much help to further improve the changes while carrying them upstream
(https://github.com/boltgolt/howdy) before submitting for packaging review.
Additionally, setting a nice user interface instead of cli would be
great for an overall better user experience. The benefit is great for
both Fedora and GNOME (other desktop environments are welcome to
contribute) for providing an alternate way of authentication.
Feedback and suggestion welcome.

[Test Days] Call for F30 Test Days
by Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,
Another testing cycle is finally upon us, and it's about time we got some
Test Days scheduled/planned for the F30 cycle.
This cycle has major changes and could use some testing love - a full list
can be found here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/30/ChangeSet
F30 also has several self-contained changes that could use some testing.
So my thought was if there were things people would like to get tested,
but didn't think it warranted an entire day - then we could group these
together and run a test day
to poke at several different things at the same time.
For those of you not familiar with test days,
a test day is an online event aimed at testing a specific a feature of an
upcoming Fedora
Release.By utilizing IRC for organization/coordination and a Wiki page for
instructions and results,
test days are easy to organize.
Anyone can request to host a test day or request that the QA team help you
out with the organization of the test day.
A test day can run for any feature or area of a distribution that focused
testing would be useful for.
More information on test days can be found here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days
To propose a test day, file an issue on Pagure[
https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issues] with F30 as Milestone.
A full explanation can be found here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days/Create
The SOP for hosting a test day is here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/SOP_Test_Day_management
If you have any questions about test days or the process,
please don't hesitate to contact me or any other QA Team member
in #fedora-qa on Freenode or respond on the test list.
Thanks and happy testing!
Thanks
