Didn't know what GL Desktop is, so I clicked it. I was already using compiz, with preferences set in Compiz Settings Manager (ccsm).
On start, GL Desktop says An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for gnome-compiz-preferences. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.
Seems it has a subset of Compiz Settings Manager options. Why does GL Desktop still need to be kept?
Thanks,

We don't ship it by default. If we do, it's a packaging error.
Cheers

Then I must have installed it as part of a howto Available Packages gnome-compiz-manager.i586 0.10.4-8.fc11 fedora

This package has do die, it does not support current compiz builds and did not do this for a while now, also it seems dead upstream.
