Change in the stable updates policy for critical path packages

The Fedora policy for push of the updates of critical path packages to
the stable updates is now changed.
The policy now allows to push the critical path package update to stable
updates after the update spent 14 days in testing and there are no
negative karma points on the update.

Reminder: Fedora password and ssh key change deadline looms (2 days left!)

Just a friendly reminder: If you are a Fedora account system account
holder, and haven't changed your password and uploaded a new ssh key
since we announced the mandatory change, you best do so NOW. The
deadline is 2011-11-30 (only 2 days away).

If you don't, you may no longer have access to groups you currently do
(like packager, or sysadmin or ambassador).
Go take a few minutes, read the announcement and security information
linked to it, and change your password and upload a new ssh public key.
If you aren't a Fedora contributor, the information linked in our
announcement is still a great read and may just help you be more secure
on your machines. :)

fedorahosted.org: Call for RHEL6 testing

Greetings.
As we recently announced, we are working on migrating fedorahosted.org
over to a newer instance or instances. We announced and held a activity
day:

Which resulted in the following plans:

Per those plans, we have setup a RHEL6 test instance of
fedorahosted.org and would like to ask people to test against it for
issues or problems.
How to test:
edit your local /etc/hosts file and add:
66.135.62.191 fedorahosted.org git.fedorahosted.org svn.fedorahosted.org hg.fedorahosted.org
Then your requests will go against the new instance.
Simply use trac, your scm and anything else as normal and note any
issues or problems. If you have any non standard trac plugins, please do
test them.
Email is disabled on this instance: Lists will not work and any changes you
make that would normally generate an email will not do so.
Also, note that this is a test copy of fedorahosted.org data. From time to time
we will remigrate the data and convert it over, causing any changes you
made to be LOST. Do remember to change your /etc/hosts entry back
to commit real changes to your projects.
If you could collect results and mail them to this list
(infrastructure) that would be best for now.
Please do remember to remove the /etc/hosts entry when you are going to
go back to the live/production instance.

FUDCon Blacksburg subsidies announcement, and general planning update.

Greetings everyone,
A few updates on the upcoming FUDCon in Blacksburg, VA in January 2012:
* We will be having our second subsidy meeting on Wednesday, November
23rd. This meeting will be for evaluating and processing any available
subsidy monies for international attendees, as well as processing any
new North America-based subsidy requests. If you are requesting a
subsidy, please ensure that your Trac ticket for requesting subsidies is
complete, particularly and especially with detail to what you plan to
accomplish / do while at FUDCon. With more than ten international
requests, and limited funding, it is especially important for the people
attending the meeting to have a clear picture of your plans in order to
make a decision on funding.
The subsidy meeting is open for anyone to attend. Please feel free to
participate, especially if you have requested funding, so that we may
ask questions and get answers in a timely manner. The meeting occurs
this Wednesday (during the normal FUDCon planning meeting time) at 17:00
UTC in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net (9am Pacific, Noon Eastern).

Elections update and town hall meetings schedule

I wanted to pass along a quick update on upcoming Fedora elections for
seats on FAmSCo, FESCo, and the Fedora Board.
Candidate answers the election questionnaire have been posted at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F17_elections_questionnaire. Responses
are divided by elected body and then appear in the order of the
nominations. Please take a moment to look over the candidate's answers
to better prepare for the upcoming elections. I would like to thank
the nominees who took the time to answer the questions.
I have also consulted with the candidates and scheduled the following
town hall meetings, to give you an opportunity to interact with the

Virtual Fedora Activity Day: Fedora Hosted 2.0 (2011-11-16 at 20UTC)

Greetings.
Fedora Infrastructure is in the planning stages for migrating
fedorahosted.org over to new hardware. As part of this planning we
would like to hold a Virtual Fedora Activity day in the #fedora-fad
IRC channel on freenode.
(or any other places that make sense after we organize in #fedora-fad)
Things we are going to work on/plan:
* Migrating fedorahosted.org to new hardware, possibly splitting it out
into multiple machines, and/or making it easier to migrate instances
around for capacity/other reasons.
* Migrating to a RHEL6 base OS, including newer trac, newer scms, and
newer software in general. Testing plans, checking what things
migrate nicely, etc.
* Migrating mailing lists over to our collab servers to reduce load on
hosted machines. Or perhaps a dedicated hosting mailing list machine.
* Making things easier to support or add new services.
Deliverables:
* A plan for what machines/instances we need to install and what they
will be used for.
* A SOP for migrating a project from the old fedorahosted machine to
new one(s), listing step by step the process.
* A list of end developer/user visible changes and actions needed
(hopefully few to none).
* A deadline for migrating instances to the new setup.
If you are a developer that uses fedorahosted.org or have interest in
infrastructure and helping plan migrations, we would love to hear from
you. If you're unable to attend the vFAD, feel free to email me or the
infrastructure list with your ideas or suggestions.
