Run prelink and other stuff not in cron but when screensaver is active.
by Jaap A. Haitsma
I sometime get a bit frustrated that a cron job starts while I'm
working. Wouldn't it be nicer that this stuff would run when I'm not
doing any work. I.e. when the screensaver is active. Maybe as a minor
enhancement when the screensaver is active and there is not a process
asking for cpu power /disk access. Sometimes I'm running compiling jobs
which take quite a while.

Questions about some default packages Fedora project
by Didier Casse
Hi,
I'm new at this Fedora concept and I would like to ask the following
questions:
1. How come we only have a limited number of Window Managers in Fedora?
i.e only (GNOME, KDE and twm)
Why don't we include more robust or eye-candy desktops such as Fluxbox,
Enlightenment, XFCE, etc... ?
2. If we have created some of our own programs, for instance I created
pdfmerge/pdfmerge4unix (program which merges any number of pdf files),
[I know it's a small thing but it was just an example! ;-p]
which is on SF.net, and I wish to make it available to the Fedora
project/users since it's a useful program. Where do I submit my rpm
packages to?
Is it possible to make it available to apt-repositories of Fedora?
3. Why don't we have a lot of packagers available at hand compared to
Debian? I think all of you are aware that the apt of Debian covers a wider
range of packages than Fedora/RH.
Debian also have several maintainers which takes care of all their
packages issues. Why don't we have the same concept in Fedora?
With kind regards,
Didier.

Self Introduction: Tom "spot" Callaway
by Tom Callaway
Full Legal Name: Tom Callaway
Location: Chicago, IL, USA
Profession: Enterprise Architect
Company: Red Hat
My Goals in the Fedora Project:
My goal is to work with Fedora to help advance Linux/SPARC. Right now,
that is through the Aurora SPARC Linux Project (http://auroralinux.org),
which I'm currently in charge of. I'm willing to do QA, although, I'd
prefer to focus on SPARC specific QA testing.
I don't have any specific packages that I'm pushing at the moment, but I
reserve the right to amend that list as we move forward.
Historical qualifications:
What other projects have you worked on in the past?
I'm currently project leader (and founder) for the Aurora SPARC Linux
Project (http://auroralinux.org), with one successful major release
under my belt, and another one in development.
I've submitted some minor patches to various Red Hat Linux packages as a
byproduct of my job, and troubleshooted advanced bugs and
misconfigurations with enterprise customers.
I also once wrote a nasty shell script to emulate Solaris's prtdiag.
Why should we trust you?
Red Hat trusts me. :)

Packages RFC
by George Garvey
For my own purposes, I'm going to package:
prcs
qmail
distcc
gcc to mingw cross-compiler
fltk
I doubt qmail is of interest to Fedora, but what about the others? Want
them passed on?

Fedora suggestion - build certain packages for i686?
by Michel Alexandre Salim
Hello,
What changed would need to be made to the current Fedora.us package
autobuilder so that it could build packages for different target
architectures? Maybe if the packager notes in a Bugzilla submission that
such-and-such package should be built for (say) i686 to obtain MMX
support, then the package could be added to a 'compile for i686' list
which the autobuilder will consult when building a package?
More ambitiously, perhaps a package should provide hints of which
processor features it could make use of (MMX, SSE etc.) and the
autobuilder will then build it for the relevant architectures *in
addition* to the standard i386?
This is not necessary for apps that autodetect CPU features like
Mplayer, of course.
Regards,
Michel
