Problems with linc and yum

Update fails with:
Error: missing dep: linc for pkg linc-devel
rawhide report says linc was removed.
1. OK, so why doesn't yum handle that?
2. Let's tell yum to erase it:
sudo yum erase linc

My goals in the Fedora project are to give something back to the
community. I want to help out and be a part of what I consider to be
the future. I have been a using(evangelizing?) Linux since '97, and
Fedora since FC1 test 1.
I am starting this process to develop for Fedora because I saw a need
for FreeNX packages. I wrote an article for Fedoranews to do manual
installations of NX, and was asked to do Fedora specific packages. I
will help out in any capacity that I can, including package
maintenance, QA, hacking, etc... At my job I am known for making
things work.
While I have never officially worked on any public Linux projects, I
am now devoting time for writing articles to help out users. I am best
at scripting languages (bash, etc...) but can program in C... Been
dabbling in Perl, not that I would say that i'm proficient, but I've
always believed that if you know one language, you can program in them
all (notable exception: Assembly). I am an expert in networking, NOS's
of all type's, and creating solutions.
It is asked for me to give an explanation as to why you should trust
me: I don't have a good reason as to why. It is fairly simple to
verify that I am who I say I am. I work for a very public company,
whose corporate office's are in Torrance, CA. A phone call to the main
switchboard, and asking for me should do the trick.
My GPG key has been uploaded to pgp.mit.edu. This should satisfy the
key requirement.

Polishing Fedora's specs

Hello
I've recently created list of all packages in Fedora Devel tree, their
URLs, Sources and Versions.
Then i've started to check them if they up-to-date, have correct URL and
Sources.
I didn't check all packages yet.
After some conversation on #fedora-devel, I've decided to write on this
list.
I can send to this list, all bugs I've already found, and inform you of
my progress.
What do you think about it? Should I continue my work, or leave it?

iptables module for smb browsing

In my quest to make SMB browsing work with the default firewall rules,
thus fixing:

I have now written a kernel conntrack module (attached) that marks
replies to netbios name requests as RELATED to the original connection.
This means the default firewall rules will work when this module is
loaded. I'm not actually an expert in netbios or firewall stuff, so I'd
love if someone who knew this better took a look at it and made sure it
looks ok.

Updated computers to current Rawhide and broke NFS & NSS/LDAP

I've just sync'd three of my computers to Rawhide, and NFS and LDAP are
now broken on each.
I get the following when I do a 'service nfs start':
Starting NFS services: [ OK ]
Starting NFS quotas: get_myaddress: getifaddrs: Bad address
[FAILED]
Starting NFS daemon: [ OK ]
Starting NFS mountd: get_myaddress: getifaddrs: Socket operation on non-
socket
[FAILED]
I'd been following Rawhide on my laptop, and everything was seeming
stable, so I decided to update two of my servers... Since my laptop
only mounts NFS and doesn't serve up any shares, of course I didn't
notice the NFS problems till too late.
My primary server, germ, which provides LDAP & Kerberos to the other
computers, is having problems with nss_ldap authenticating as the binddn
in /etc/ldap.conf to the localhost slapd for NSS info. When users try
to log into germ, NSS doesn't work for them. When logged in as root, it
has no problem authenticating as rootbinddn with the password
in /etc/ldap.secret.
In my logs the following errors have started to appear in various forms:

When I run 'testsaslauthd -u ldap -s ldap -p secret' (which is how
binddn and bindpw try to authenticate in /etc/ldap.conf), it says
"Success!"
In /var/log/slapd, I'm gettin things like:

I wish I could be less vague... But I'm not able to figure out much
more than what I've just said. I'm digging everywhere, trying to figure
out what changed that broke these two ever important functionalities.
I know my way around my systems... I configured this tangled mess of
LDAP + Kerberos + SASL + NSS/PAM + NFS in the first place...
I've done 'find / -name *.rpmsave' and 'find / -name *.rpmnew' and
compared all the changes... Everything seems fine.
Any ideas? What's up with NFS? And why can root do nss_ldap, but not
users?

perl-Filter man pages

Hello,
I am using all the latest packages from rawhide. When I build perl-Filter, it
does not create man pages. This error is not flagged since it builds a package
list dynamically based on find.
Has anyone else tried building perl-Filter when using the latest? Did you get man
pages?
What is likely to be the problem with not getting man pages? I'm not terribly
familiar with the perl susbsystem or packages and I'm just curious.

Recent Fedora Core kernels (plus my SPEC file for 2.6.8-1.541 with Athlon support)

Is there a document or page that details all of the changes in how
recent Fedora Core kernels are built? I've noticed several changes, and
I want to verify I understand them all. I apologize as I've seen some
traffic, but I can't seem to find a definite answer (I'm sure I just
passed over it).
Specifically:
1. The "sourcecode" package, which is now ARCH="noarch"
Assumption:
I assume the package name change was because the ARCH has changed.
Additional Q:
Why is the "sourcecode" package not built by default when
"--target=noarch" is passed? I.e.,
%ifarch noarch
%define builddoc 1
%define buildsource 0
^^^
2. There is another variable in EXTRAVERSIONS, defaults to "root"
Assumption:
I assume this is to differentiate between UML (User Mode Linux)
kernels (so the same build system can be used)?
Additional Q:
Is this a stock kernel change? Or Red Hat only?
3. Athlon no longer a build option at all in the SPEC file
Assumption:
Are there support issues with this? Or was it another reasoning?**
Additional Q:
Is there any reason why we can't "patch back in" just the few changes
into the SPEC so one can build Athlon kernels easily with
"--target=athlon"?
[ **BTW, I'm fully aware that the i686 kernel runs fairly optimized on
Athlon. But turning off the generic support, and optimizing for K7
makes a significant difference for me in engineering applications. ]
Also, to add in Athlon support, you don't have to make it part of the
"all_x86" set. In fact, I made Athlon a separate build conditional on
its own in my own spec file (for 2.6.8-1.541) here (along with a few
other changes):

Is there no way to produce the "kernel-sourcecode-*.noarch.rpm" package
from the _default_ SPEC file?
To me, that would be a default that I would like to debate.
Or at least learn about more reasoning

I totally missed the `whoami` in the line. Doh! Now it makes perfect
sense.

Now that you mention it, I really need to look at this in more detail.
Someone else mentioned the 4GB/4GB setting. I saw that too. But no,
I didn't change it in my default SPEC (although I have built some
custom kernels).
I'm kinda curious if Fedora Core should ship a 1GB i686 kernel for
desktops that have 1GB or less, since there is a good chance of a
major performance difference. The old 1GB/3GB method would be better
for a lot of desktops out there if added.
But that's another debate.
