The trouble is that once I was no longer a sysadmin, that particular
itch has disappeared. I have been a busy boy in the past few years,
too (wife, family, etc), so I no longer have copious amounts of time
to dedicate to hacking on fun projects in the evenings. Mea culpa.
Epylog is still a sound project, it just needs to become someone
else's itch to scratch. :) The plans that I had for it were:
1. Rewrite log parsing routines to be configurable and not hardcoded,
since programmers don't really think twice about modifying those (one
day is "service foo started by user=bar domain=baz," in the next
version it's "service foo started: user=bar; domain=baz")
2. There is really just a couple of log notice types that make up the
bulk of messages -- e.g. "user foo logged into bar using service baz
from host quux", just in different formats. These can all be
abstracted and put into sqlite db for generating reports (not in huge
dicts as right now).
3. Everything else are one-offs that people either don't care about
("daemon foo received a message!") or really-really care about
("smartd says the disk on node X is about to keel over and die"). The
crap you filter out, and whatever doesn't fall under "crap" you
usually put at the top.
That's pretty much all it would take to make Epylog not as annoying
when it comes to configuration and hacking. However, like I said -- I
don't think I'll have the time or motivation to do that. Moving the
project to fedorahosted was one of the steps I had in mind towards
making it more accessible for others to hack on (should they be
interested in that).

Should we mount with reltime as default?

One of the configuration changes made when installing Linux on Flash
media seems to be to turn on the 'reltime' mount option in fstab.
Should we perhaps turn this by default, if there are no downside to
this?
Failing that, perhaps being able to mark, when using Anaconda, which
devices are actually Flash -- or autodetect them somehow -- and use
'reltime' on those?

speed up boot about 10s

Hi,
I'm playing around with bootchart and had an initial boot time of 45s.
When I did the usual stuff (disabling senseless services) I came to 42s.
Then I picked the biggest fish: udevsettle sleeps for about 5s and does
what? I added udevtimeout=1 to the cmdline to get rid of it and had no
problem but an annoying error message on boot and 4s less boot time. I
also tried to start rhgb in background from rc.sysinit simply by
calling /usr/bin/rhgb& That again saved me 3s (but let rhgb run in
background forever using 100% cpu).
Ive lost rhgb X-output a while ago and don't know why (maybe an update
put out a regression, I do not boot my laptop that often), so I cannot
test if that kind of stuff works, but at least somehow the process
should be killed somewhen ;)
To make a conclusion: making startup of blocks in rc.sysinit parallel is
worth some work ;)
What about the future? Does plymouth start parallel? Is someone working
on speeding up nash-hotplug?

Are you going to bump and rebuild the rawhide/F-10 branch? rawhide is
on:
blam-1.8.5-1.fc10
which will cause a broken upgrade path as
blam-1.8.5-2.fc9 > blam-1.8.5-1.fc10
Can you consider bumping the release tag *after* the disttag, i.e.:
blam-1.8.5-1.fc9.1
this would avoid the need to rebuild the rawhide branch.

Actually, I was just wondering who to complain to about that ...
and I think it's you ;-)
The decision to overwrite the same URL with new documentation updates
means that there is actually not any way for me to obey the source-URL
packaging guidelines with respect to the PG documentation. If I point
to that URL in the 8.3.4 specfile, then the SRPM will stop matching the
upstream URL as soon as 8.3.5 comes out and someone overwrites the PDF
again.
Give each PDF version an honest permanent URL, and I'll link to it.
(I've also considered not treating the PDF as a source at all, but
generating it during RPM build; which would get me around the problem
that the docs aren't usually available when I need to build the RPMs.
But it'd increase the package build time rather horrendously.)

Fedora rawhide rebuild in mock status 2008-09-23 x86_64

This is not a full rebuild of everything, merely a rebuild of packages
failing to build over the last few weeks. Failures here will cause
new bugzilla bugs to be created, which will block the 'F10FTBFS' bug.
My hope is that we can resolve all these before the Fedora 10 Release
Candidate.
122 of these failures are due to patch fuzz. Each of those should be
reviewed to ensure upstream has not already fixed the problem the
patch addressed, either by applying the patch or by fixing it in
another way. If the problem persists, please rebase the patch to the
current source code, so it applies without fuzz, and forward your
patch to the upstream package maintainer.

* FESCo approved a proposal (contingent on rel-eng and infrastructure
team buy-in) not to make any hard restrictions about what files are
shipped, but recommend that they don't ship end-user binaries. And to
put the _target_ (noarch) stuff in a separate repository, and the actual
toolchain into Fedora.

state for the beta release. Based on the information available, they
