Help to solve a possible circular Requires:
by Fabio M. Di Nitto
Hi all,
I am seeking some help here to solve a possible $subject. I have been
trying to find a simple alternate solution, but I just can´t see it or
it´s not obvious to me.
This is the situation:
srpm foo 1.0 ships 2 rpm´s bar and baz. bar has a daemon inside.
due to upstream split:
srpm foo 1.1 now ships only bar rpm without the daemon.
srpm baz 1.1 now ships 2 rpm´s, baz (exactly as in version 1.0) and
baz-something that contains the bar´s daemon from 1.0.
In order to avoid upgrade issues, we need to make sure that bar 1.1 will
pull in baz-something 1.1 (to retain functionality), at the same time
baz-something requires bar 1.1 to operate at all.
There is no requirement for a strictly versioned Requires: on both
sides. baz-something Requires: bar >= 1.1, and bar Requires:
baz-something (no version need since it´s a new rpm).
>From local testing, the circular Requires works just fine, both in
upgrades and clean install (tested with yum and manual rpm), but I don´t
like it.
Is there a better way to achieve this upgrade path?
Thanks
Fabio

x86_64 rawhide: No CPU frequency scaling anymore?
by Horst H. von Brand
After yesterday's updates, on login to Gnome a error message shows up
saying that "CPU Frequency scaling is unsupported", and claims either
misconfiguration or just isn't supported. It used to word fine before
that. In /var/log/messages nothing shows up.
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5670(a)1.80GHz, stepping 13.
I tried my older kernels (kernel-2.6.36-2.fc15.x86_64,
kernel-2.6.36-4.fc15.x86_64, kernel-2.6.36-5.fc15.x86_64 here) and
downgraded gnome-settings daemon (only thing that looked remotely relevant
in the updates), no changes.

primary maintainer doesn't really matter. Bugzilla doesn't do owners
per release, there is just one owner for Fedora, and one for EPEL.
The matter of watchcommits is interesting, but I wonder if that really
needs to be tied to pkgdb or if in the future we have a better way of
"subscribing" to data regarding a particular package/branch/whatever.

[Test-Announce] Bugzappers meeting in 7 minutes!
by Adam Williamson
This from Matej, who tried to send it a while ago, but who appears to be
unable to post to the mailing list for some reason (I blame Canonical):
Some of leading members of our glorious BugZappers crew presented some
unreasonable requirements, like they would to sleep sometimes and stuff,
but in our very benevolent and endless mercy other BugZappers then
present on #fedora-bugzappers channel decided to postpone shift
permanently the weekly BugZappers meeting to 21:00 UTC (that's 13:00 PST
and 16:00 EST).
See you all there!
Matěj
So we're meeting today in 7 - well, 6, now - minutes. Sorry for the
extremely late notice. :) We'll send out better notice in future.

Showing packages installed on the system: show-installed
by Florian Festi
Hi everyone!
During Richard Hughes' "Linux and application installing" thread[1] I
had argued that just showing a list of packages won't cut it for most
use cases around package handling. One of those use cases is showing
which packages are installed on a system. For getting an idea about a
machine a list of about 1500 packages is not really helping. In a side
note I came up with the following idea [2]:
> Generate a packages section as found in a kickstart file and showthis as
> "Installed Packages". Remove all packages required by others and reduce
> packages to groups whenever possible. May be even to a group with some
> packages missing. Minimizing the number of lines should get pretty good
> results."
This is now implemented as "show-installed" which is part of
yum-utils-1.1.29-2.fc15 found in Fedora devel. It supports three
different output formats: kickstart %packages, yum cli and human
readable. It also supports a number of options for controlling the
output and whether it should consider excludes to make use of even more
groups. See "man show-installed" or "show-installed --help" for details.
As the script also takes a list of package names it can be used to
create a package list on/for a newer release. As it has not seen too
many real world use suggestions and bug reports are welcome.
While show-installed might be a useful tool I primarily see it as part
of the package handing UI discussion. Tools like gpk-application or
yumex could offer this as a condensed view. May be even the list of
available packages could presented like this. I separated the logic from
the actual formatting code so it should be easy to toy around with the
Python class or to translate the pretty simple algorithm to another
programming language. Feel free to ask me on #yum if you have question
or need help with that.
Florian

Unretired package "impressive" blocked in buildsys
by Michael J Gruber
Hi there,
I took over a retired package (rereview APPROVED, took over package,
reassigned bugs, SCM update request processed) but can't seem to "fedpkg
build" it: I get "package impressive is blocked for tag dist-f15" (see
below).
Everything in pkgdb looks OK:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/impressive
I can (and did) "fedpkg push" to all pertinent branches (master, f14,
f13, el6), so that SCM access is OK, but can't "fedpkg build".
The wiki at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Orphaned_package_that_need_new_maintainers
suggests filing an infrastructure ticket, contacting toshio through irc
or one of the infratstructure and devel lists in case of a wrong package
status. But the status is fine (approved), the blockage seems to be
somewhere in buildsys (?).
Who can help, where should I report this or file a ticket?
Thanks for any pointers,
Michael
