Python packaging problem with Fedora (out of tree package)
by Trever L. Adams
Hello everyone,
I hope this is the correct list. OpenERP 6 and 7 are in Fedora. I am
working on making some open source modules for OpenERP/Odoo and for a
long time I have put off installing Odoo, in part because it isn't
packaged for Fedora. I am currently working on fixing this, at least so
that I can do development. One of my major remaining problems is the
following:
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/setuptools/dist.py:285: UserWarning:
Normalizing '9.0c-20160504' to '9.0rc20160504'
normalized_version,
Now, I can work around this as it only changes where things will be
installed as site-packages. However, I would like to know if there is a
proper way to do this. While I have done work with Python before, I have
never written entire packages that get installed using the setuptools. I
have never had to mess with them before and I do not know how to work
around this.
Thank you,
Trever

RFC: Fedora Docker Layered Image Guidelines
by Adam Miller
Hello all,
We're wrapping up the first phase of the Fedora Docker Layered Image
Build Service[0] and the time has come to start thinking about what we as a
Project need to do to formalize what it means to be shipping Docker Layered
Images once we are capable of building and distributing them.
These are effectively going to compliment their RPM counterpart at least
in the beginning since we as a Project have never shipped any build artifact
other than RPMs as a part of the distribution before. We can grow organically
from there if we want to extend beyond the initial offering for Docker
Layered Images but I thought following RPM as a guide in the beginning was a
reasonable goal to achieve. Some areas that seemed pertinant right off the
bat are below, for each of them I have alread created a Draft document that
I would appreciate feedback on.
Docker Layered Image "packaging" Guidelines [1]
Package Review Process with a Docker Containers section [2]
Docker Layered Images Naming Guildelines [3]
The Fedora Cloud SIG has done a first-pass review of these (thanks Cloud
SIG!) so hopefully there's a certainly level of sanity to them but I'm
absolutely open to new ideas and extending the content with more coverage.
Another point to note is that we need to determine how this should be handled
in BZ components for bug reporting as well as for filing review requests.
Something else what was brought up when I originally submitted these ideas to
FESCo[4] (aside from the fact that this should go to devel list first) was
that it is probably a good idea to establish a Container-centric Guidelines
Committee much in the way there is a Fedora Packaging Committee (which focuses
on RPMs). My question to everyone on that topic is, would there be enough
interest to establish such a committee?
As a side note and just a matter of opinion but I think the idea of forming
a Committee to help shepherd these new types of deliverables through Fedora
will help to enable aspects of Fedora Modularization[5] which ultimately will
be good for the whole of the Fedora Project.
I look forward to questions and feedback.
Thank you,
-AdamM

Self Introduction: Michael Cullen
by Michael Cullen
Hi!
I've just submitted a review request here
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1332344
I'm a software developer from the UK currently living and working in
London on Linux-based set top box middleware. I've been a Linux user for
a long time, but never really offered much back. I've tried many
distros, but always seem to keep coming back to Fedora. Anyway, I've
decided it's probably time I offered something back, and packaging seems
like as good an idea as any.
Why this package? Well it seemed like a fairly easy one to start with
and I used to work on a Qt-based product so I know it well. Also it
plays into my interest in imaging and media.
My interests outside of software are travel and photography (even if I
do rather more of the latter) and I'm also sometimes found (literally)
hanging around local climbing centres.
Anyway, let me know if you have any questions about this!
Thanks,
Michael

At fedora-meeting-1(a)irc.freenode.net
The meeting will be about:
Join us on irc.freenode.net in #fedora-meeting-1 for this important meeting, wherein we shall determine the readiness of the Fedora 24 Beta.
The meeting is going to be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 17:30 UTC. Please check the [Fedocal] link for your time zone.
Before each public release Development, QA and Release Engineering meet to determine if the release criteria are met for a particular release. This meeting is called the Go/No-Go Meeting. Verifying that the Release criteria are met is the responsibility of the QA Team.
Release Candidate (RC) availability and good QA coverage are prerequisites for the Go/No-Go meeting. If you have any bug on the list, please help us with Beta release. If we won't be ready by Thursday, we will use this meeting to review blockers and decide what to do.
For more details about this meeting please follow the [GoNoGoMeeting] link.
In the meantime, please keep also an eye on the Fedora 24 Beta Blocker list [Blockers].
