correctly packaging dconf overrides

Hello, I am working on a Fedora remix for visually impaired. I would like to ship some modifications to Mate desktop environment in form of packages. I would like to customize some keybindings because they are not set from the start. I think the best would be to use dconf overrides. You can see my pakage sources here: https://github.com/vojtapolasek/vojtux/tree/master/rpm/vojtux-settings Do you think this is a correct and valid way how to override dconf settings with a package? Copr Modularity, the End of an Era

Hello everybody, I'd like to announce that all Modularity features in Copr (except for module hotfixes) are now deprecated, and we have a plan to slowly remove them from our codebase. strange reproducibility problem with QImage

Hi, Calibre builds are irreproducible, various png icons differ slightly between builds [1]. I know where the issue occurs, but I'm at a loss where the fix should be applied. We have Qt experts and enthusiasts in Fedora, so I thought I'd post here… Icons are rendered [2] using the following code: img = QImage(path).scaled(int(width), int(height), Qt.AspectRatioMode.IgnoreAspectRatio, Qt.TransformationMode.SmoothTransformation) img.save(dest) With python3-pyqt6-6.8.0-0.1.fc42.x86_64, we get a difference in how the icons are rendered: calibre-7.20.0-1.fc42.x86_64 modified-S.5........ /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/calibre-gui.png modified-S.5........ /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/calibre-ebook-edit.png modified-S.5........ /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/calibre-gui.png modified-S.5........ /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/calibre-viewer.png ... There are some tiny differences in shading of some pixels. The difference is not discernible visually for me. [1] has example icons attached. Is this a bug in Qt and implementation of QImage.scaled [3] ? Pkg installation failure when system recommends to install it on 'command not found'

Hi team, I have seen this issue several times (I am using a F40 system) but now I have captured the log when using the *sar* cmd which is part of the *sysstat* package: on the command line I tried running the *sar* cmd which it wasn't present on the system thus bash/Fedora nicely suggests to install it but fails on the process $ sar bash: sar: command not found... RFC: Moving to -O3 for Fedora Linux

Hey folks, I know the idea of moving to -O3 has been briefly mentioned before in other contexts when we've discussed uplifting the flags, but it looks like Ubuntu is moving to -O3 for Ubuntu 25.04[1]. Is there a reason why we shouldn't consider doing the same for Fedora Linux 42? FYI Koji 1.35 changed how side tag newRepo works

[So no one else ends up waiting around like an idiot] Koji 1.35 changed how repositories and side tags and such get rebuilt, so they no longer get rebuilt on their own. Instead you have to *either*: fedpkg build --target=... --wait-build=<build> *or*: koji wait-repo <tag> --build=<build> --request where the --request option (I think implied in the first command) will both request that the repository is recreated and wait for it. Quick plan for Blender LTS

Hello team, Now that upstream Blender has a LTS release, a new strategy is needed for Fedora and also EPEL. The current release F41 and Rawhide will continue to receive new upstream updates, while Fedora n-1 and lower will stay branched on LTS i.e. Blender 4.2.x. Request for comment- tuned replacing power-profiles-daemon plan

Hi Folks, We would like to replace power-profiles-daemon with tuned. There are many power-related software that offer similar functions. Advanced users may install several power management tools, for example, tuned and power-profiles-daemon (ppd), and get confused about which tools manage the system and cause unexpected behaviors for the system. By integrating power-profiles-daemon with tuned, the user can get extra features to finetune the system, and the basic feature provided by ppd can be used according to the user's demand. It also can reduce the efforts of the maintainer. The impact of this plan would be gnome-control-center (power panel), KDE, sysprof, and tuned (or some projects depending on ppd). We should move the ppd API and features to tuned to provide the same features of it. From the API aspect, we also can design a new API for the basic feature, ppd provided but the software dependent on ppd should be modified to use the new API. Although, for the long-term plan, a set of new API is a good option. For the short-term plan, moving the original one to tuned is good for those applications depending on ppd. Malayalam terminal support

Since 2010, we’ve had a package emacs-terminal, with the following description: > Contains a desktop menu item running GNU Emacs terminal. Install > emacs-terminal if you need a terminal with Malayalam support. > > Please note that emacs-terminal is a temporary package and it will be > removed when another terminal becomes capable of handling Malayalam. Does anyone know if another Malayalam-capable terminal now exists? I tried copying the string “മലയാളം” from the Malayalam Wikipedia page into Gnome Terminal, and it looks okay to me, but I really don’t know what I’m looking for. -- Peter Oliver
