A quick look over the cdrdao sources suggests the following:
in order to use burnfree your burner has to be compatible to the
generic mmc standard (which virtually all non-ancient burners are,
I think).
In that case, burnfree capability is announced at a standard place,
and en-/disabled at a likewise standard place.
