It may be invasive or hackish, but sometimes it is absolutely necessary
to getting a functional system. There are many valid uses, such as
setting needed hardware parameters and setting the kernel console.
Exactly! And there are times when this needs to be changed after the
system has already been installed. There is no substitute for being
able to authenticate and then enter kernel parameters. The simplest
way to implement this would be kexec().
