When going with btrfs /boot, you can forego separate partition
just make a /boot subvolume in main pool.
Advantage: fewer partitions.
Disadvantages: using encryption is harder. GRUB2 supports only LUKS1
encryption (AFAIK). Obviously, there is not plymouth integration, so the
password would have to be entered at least twice.
When not using encryption above is not a problem.
Once there's native btrfs encryption, agreed, /boot should just be a
separate subvolume where we make sure we don't turn on any unsupported
