You are correct; however the crucial difference between then and now is that PulseAudio was installable (and therefore testable) in Fedora 7 prior to Fedora 8 making it the default.
That is not the case with PipeWire today.
QA folks, this is definitely a Change that (if approved) we should do a Test Day (or several) for, and probably one that could use help with a better test plan. Do we have any domain experts who'd like to volunteer to work on that? Thanks!
If "Test Day" requires running rawhide (or booting a LiveUSB image) then I'm not going to be able to do meanigful testing with my actual desktop environment and applications.
