Hi, so far mutter and gnome-desktop3 had noticeable soname version changes within the GNOME 51.alpha updates.
For the gnome-dekstop3 51.alpha the `dnf repoquery --whatrequires "gnome-desktop3-devel" --recursive --enablerepo=fedora-source` returns this list:
``` budgie-control-center budgie-desktop budgie-session cheese eog evince evolution evolution-ews evolution-rspam gala gnome-desktop-sharp gnome-directory-thumbnailer gnome-flashback gnome-panel libphosh-devel magpie phoc phosh phrog pidgin-chime stevia totem ```
and for gnome-desktop4-devel:
``` chatty gala gnome-clocks gnome-control-center gnome-font-viewer gnome-initial-setup gnome-kiosk gnome-session gnome-settings-daemon gnome-shell malcontent mutter nautilus phosh-mobile-settings showtime wingpanel xdg-desktop-portal-gnome ```
and for mutter 51.alpha:
``` gala gnome-kiosk gnome-shell wingpanel ```
I have commit rights for plenty of them, but not for all.
I went through all of them and either rebuilt them or scratch-built them against the side tag. The list of the leftovers divides into these groups:
* dead packages:
cheese gala wingpanel
* simple rebuild is required:
budgie-desktop budgie-session gnome-desktop-sharp gnome-directory-thumbnailer gnome-flashback gnome-panel magpie phoc phosh stevia
* cannot tell due to other dependencies:
phosh-mobile-settings - requires phoc and phosh to be built first phrog - requires phosh to be built first
* awaiting new release, which I can handle myself once done:
gnome-kiosk - requires release for new mutter
* problematic package:
budgie-control-center - libgnome-desktop/gnome-rr.h was dropped
The build is prepared in a side tag `f45-build-side-142282` , which can be used as:
fedpkg build --target=f45-build-side-142282
I'd appreciate a help from the respective maintainers or a proven packager on packages I was not able to rebuild myself (the list above).
Thanks and bye, Milan
Are you sure this repoquery command is correct (or was run on rawhide)? "gala" should not be in the list, it's retired in rawhide. Maybe it should have been the "rawhide-source" repo, not "fedora-source"?
Hi, that's right, I know, I usually use a rawhide machine for these queries, but my rawhide machine failed to read repo data properly from different mirrors for whatever reason today, thus I used Fedora 44 sources, where those packages are not removed yet. I figured they are dead packages later on anyway ;)
Bye, Milan
These _should_ be simple rebuilds too, let me know if you hit any issues.
Hi, I guess so too, but I could not verify. I do not have commit rights for any of those packages
I missed that you had a side-tag already prepared.. I'll trigger the builds shortly.
Thank you for a quick step up.
These are now taken care of:
- phoc - phosh - phosh-mobile-settings - stevia
Hi, thank you. I do not see the phosh-mobile-settings tagged in the side tag, somehow. `koji list-tagged f45-build-side-142282 | grep pho`
Some other packages had been done meanwhile too. With a known "to be broken" budgie-control-center there only left these to be rebuilt:
budgie-desktop budgie-session gnome-desktop-sharp gnome-directory-thumbnailer gnome-flashback gnome-panel magpie
To give people more time I will fill an update at the beginning of the next week, most likely on Tuesday.
Thanks and bye, Milan
As I explained to you in the Fedora Mobility room [1], the phosh-mobile-settings build failed because stevia needed a rebuild, and you're the only one with permissions to that package.
I then asked you to please let me know when you'd rebuilt stevia, so that I could make sure that phrog + p-m-s were rebuilt [2]. You never got back to me, but instead posted to the list saying that p-m-s was rebuilt, so I only rebuilt phrog.
Anyway, p-m-s is now failing to build legitimately [3]. It runs tests with `G_DEBUG=fatal-warnings`, and the soname bump seems to be triggering this new warning during some of the tests:
Use GtkSettings:gtk-interface-color-scheme instead
I'll work on a patch for this over the weekend.
BRs, -Sam
Hi, I see the recent builds of stevia-0.56.0-2.fc45 (from few hours ago) and phosh-mobile-settings-0.56.0-1.fc45 from July 5th, are both for f45 tag, not for the side tag `f45-build-side-142282`. At least koji shows me these builds when searching by package name.
When I look into the side tag, it has stevia-0.56~rc1-2.fc45 and phosh-mobile-settings-0.55.0-3.fc45.
Seeing the build time I suppose you are working on it literally right now. I'll wait for your update in this thread.
By the way, if it would make things easier I can create the rawhide update and the missing pieces can be built shortly afterwards directly to rawhide, without involving the side tag.
Thanks and bye, Milan
Hi, I looked on the tagged packages again and among all those ~60 packages only the stevia has missing a newer rebuild, to the 0.56.0 release (which is in rawhide).
I can ask some proven packager to do it, but I suppose Sam is on it (and I do not want to step on anybody's toes).
Am I right, Sam?
Thanks and bye, Milan
Sorry about that, this soname bump managed to coincide with Phosh's periodic (every ~6 weeks) release train :)
Yep, It's built in the sidetag now: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=147515487
Hi again, the update cannot be currently "merged", because:
This update cannot be pushed to stable. These builds phoc-0.56~rc1-2.fc45, phosh-0.56~rc1-2.fc45, phosh-mobile-settings-0.55.0-3.fc45 have a more recent build in koji's f45 tag.
Sam, could you rebuild them into the side tag, please?
It's:
fedpkg build --target=f45-build-side-142282
You've been quicker with your rawhide build than the update itself.
Thanks and bye, Milan
Phoc needs a rebuild again as Sam just built the Phoc v0.56.0 for rawhide and the side-tag still has the 0.56~rc1?
