Hello, I just installed a fresh copy of the fedora development version
onto a separate partition on my PC.  I downloaded the 5MB boot.iso and
did a network install.  Install went fine, but I have a few questions /
problems which might all be expected.

mouse is too fast - I have a USB Optical MS Intellimouse, works fine
under FC1 with the 2.4 kernel.  When I tried out arjan's 2.6 test kernel
on FC1 I had the same problem.  The mouse is very fast (sensitive), to
the point that it's barely useable.  Perhaps there is a way to configure
this, but I don't know it.

no sound - since we are on 2.6, I would guess we are using ALSA, but
none of the alsa utilities were installed, I assume this just hasn't
been done yet.  system-config-sound properly identifies my hardware, but
I get no sound.

system-config-users crashes: when I run it, I get this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/system-config-users/system-config-users.py", line 25,
in ?
    import libuser
ImportError: No module named libuser


xmms crashes - I just get a message that there was a Segmentation fault.

Any feedback would be appreciated.  If I get the mouse and the sound
worked out, I would be happy to keep using, testing and reporting
problems with the development versions of FC.

Um, adjust the mouse (unless of course your as slow as you can go and
it's still fast)?  I get same thing, so I adjust it to slow it down and
works just fine.

Preferences/Mouse then the last tab I believe.

I've noticed the same, even slowing my most to the very least sensitive. 
it can ve very har to use. In may case it's a touch pad on a dell, and 
I'm using xfce, comiled recently under FC1. I'll need to try gnome and 
kde to try and isolate what might be happening.

I should have posted earlier, even though I have no definite information :-(

But IMO this might be a real problem, not something to be just wriiten 
of as 'change your settings'

I see much of the same - seems the code to set up finer grained mouse 
reporting instead or as well turns up the scaling too. At least on some mice.

My mouse is part of the MS Wireless Desktop (keyboard and mouse are
wireless) but the speed is the only problem I have seen.

Building a fixed libuser for this now.

Can you run it under gdb and get a backtrace?

Ok, I have updated my fedora-devel box as of Jan 2, 2004.  I can run
system-config-users, but it crashes when I try to add a new user.  The
new user window comes up, I fill out all the fields, and click ok, and I

I can't get a core file.  As a regular user when I ulimit -c unlimited,
I get "bash: ulimit: core file size: cannot modify limit: Operation not
permitted".  When I do it as root it, the ulimit command completes ok,
but I still don't get a core file when I run xmms.

Any idea why?

Make sure there's only one mouse defined in /etc/X11/XF86Config. Also
make sure the device used for that mouse is "/dev/input/mice". For
example,

Actually, you should probably change the Emulate3Buttons option to
"no".  The wheel is the middle button, just click it down rather than
rolling it (which is buttons 4 & 5).

The alsa plugin probably blew up. If you could get a backtrace, that
would confirm this.
