Boost packages conflict

Hello all!

The boost169 compatibility package conflicts with the regular boost on
Fedora 32. Both packages provides the same libraries.

Error: Transaction test error:
  file /usr/lib64/libboost_system.so.1.69.0 from install of
boost169-system-1.69.0-6.fc32.x86_64 conflicts with file from package
boost-system-1.69.0-15.fc32.x86_64

What's the point of having a compatibility package for the same version 
as the regular one?  I'm guessing that means they're in the process of 
preparing a new release, but why are you trying to install it now?

No one try to install it now. New boost will be in F33 only.

But if boost not installed in system and user want install for example
libreoffice he will get this error and can't install any package
requires boost.

boost169 must be removed from F32 repos at all.

boost169 should never have ended up in Fedora 32 in the first place (blame on me, sorry).
The thing is that we can no longer block it: https://pagure.io/releng/issue/9455

So, we have to add obsolete rules for all the sub-packages. Working on it right now.
Something like, in boost.spec on Fedora 32
(https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost/blob/f32/f/boost.spec):

%package component
Summary: Run-time component of boost atomic library
Provides:  boost169-component-1.69.0-7
Obsoletes: boost169-component-1.69.0-7

Whereas the latest release of boost169 on Fedora 32 is 1.69.0-6
(https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost169/blob/d8812637e7d612a21cafb6dd...).

On Rawhide, it has been retired, so that the issue does not come up again in the future
with other Fedora releases.

I think an update of fedora-obsolete-packages could "virtually" remove
boost169, without touching boost itself.

1. Run KDE spin F32 in virt-manager.
2. dnf install toolnix

Result:

But after upgrading boost* error is gone and packages normal installed.

Maybe that's why I don't see it.  I do net installs which include 
updates.  So as long as someone does updates before trying to install 
something new, they should be fine?

I can verify this.  I wonder if it could be considered a bug in dnf or 
the solver.  The problem seems to be about having an update available 
for boost-system.  I started with a clean install of the release F32 
from live media.  If the update repos are not enabled, then installing 
will use the regular boost packages.  But if update repos are enabled 
and the boost-system update is available, then it will pick the boost169 
packages.  If the update repos are enabled and boost-system is 
up-to-date, then it will use the regular boost packages.

So, we have to add obsolete rules for all the sub-packages. Working on it right now.
Something like, in boost.spec on Fedora 32
(https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost/blob/f32/f/boost.spec):

Summary: Run-time component of boost atomic library
Provides:  boost169-component-1.69.0-7
Obsoletes: boost169-component-1.69.0-7

Whereas the latest release of boost169 on Fedora 32 is 1.69.0-6
(https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost169/blob/d8812637e7d612a21cafb6dd...).

On Rawhide, it has been retired, so that the issue does not come up again in the future
with other Fedora releases.

No, you won't get that error.  dnf will pick one or the other and it 
picks the regular boost package.  (I've tested it.)

I believe it's fine to just leave it as it is.  I did a couple of 
installs and tested installing applications and it only brings in the 
regular boost packages.  In any case, there should never be a conflict 
unless you deliberately try to install both at the same time.
