Idea for website

After downloading a 32MB kernel .src.rpm for the n+1:th time just 
to look at a 4k patch, I came up with a pretty useful feature for
the website. Basically a "rpm2html" thing (not the existing one, which 
does something different), which just basically lets you browse
.src.rpm's in rawhide and grab invidual files from inside the archive. 

Or am I the only one who grabs .src.rpm's all the time to figure out 
what exactly have they done this time? :-)

There are some rough edges relating to the installation (as well as
others here and there) which I haven't found time to clean up yet. 
Seth, I'd BTW be very grateful if you (or anyone else familiar with the
rpm Python bindings) could review the rpm parts...

Also, I suggest applying the "Significant performance improvements"
patch to htmltmpl from
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=794271&g...

Note: fancix requires the final version of mod_python 3, the CVS
snapshot packaged in RH 8.0 won't work.

Forgot to say that ideas how to cleanly (ie. using the Python bindings)
extract files from inside rpm's would be very much welcome too, I'd
rather not go the rpm2cpio way.

Oh, and RHL9 packages of fancix and dependencies can be found from
http://cachalot.mine.nu/9/ and some from fedora.us.

I imagine that everyone on this list has done it, one time or another.

It'd be pretty simple to architect:

* are there any new .src.rpm packages?

* oh, there are! cool:

All packages (well, most, there are a few exceptions still) are
maintained in CVS and the plan is to get this moved external.  Then you
could either just anoncvs checkout the package (which then doesn't
require pulling the tarball) or look at the cvsweb setup that will
almost certainly happen at the same time.

Once we have package metadata (including patches) in external CVS,
then cvsweb will make this happen easily.  (We already do this
internally for our internal package CVS...)
