[diversity] Outreachy - remote internships in Free and Open Source Software
by Amita
Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) is software that gives the user the
freedom to use, share, study, and improve it. FOSS contributors believe
that this is the best way to develop software because it benefits
society, creates a fun collaborative community around a project, and
allows anyone to make innovative changes that reach many people.
In an effort to improve diversity in FOSS, a number of organizations are
offering remote and mentored Outreachy internships through a program
organized by Software Freedom Conservancy. These internships are open
internationally to all women (cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer
people. Additionally, they are open in the U.S, to all Black/African
American, Hispanic/Latin@, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native
Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander people. The stipend for the program is
$5,500 (USD). Applicants must be available for full-time, 40-hours a
week, internships. The application deadline is October 17, 2016 and the
internship dates are December 6, 2016 to March 6, 2017. College students
from the Southern Hemisphere who will have a school summer break during
most of this time are particularly encouraged to apply.
Coding, user experience design, documentation, bug triage, community
engagement, and other types of projects are available. To apply, you
need to connect with a participating organization early, select a
project you want to work on, make a few relevant contributions with the
help of a mentor, and create a project plan.

Please consider applying for Outreachy, encourage someone else to apply,
or help spread the word by forwarding this message to any interested
university and community groups.
To learn more, please join mentors, coordinators, and alums of Outreachy
for a Twitter chat with a hashtag #OutreachyChat at 3pm UTC on September
21 (11am EST).

[diversity] Talk on Diversity at FUDCon APAC - Phnom Penh
by Kanika Murarka
Hey all,
On #fedora-divesity we were thinking of ideas of what we can talk about on diversity, if we are having a Diversity panel or a talk, on FOSS and Diversity and how Fedora is promoting gender equality
Here are some ideas from Justin W. Flory and Amita:-
* Detailing some of the outreach efforts to include more women in open source and Fedora
* Challenges with bringing more women into the community
* What we could do to help make that easier across the project
* Amita's slides from her talk on Women in Open Source is a good example for introducing diversity efforts in open source
* Diversity Team and initiative in Fedora- Why it was founded, what some of the goals are, and why these are important to focus on as a team, a project, a community actively participating in the greater realm of open source software.
If anyone have more ideas, can add on this thread :)
Thanks and Regards

[diversity] [Minutes] [2016-09-14] Planning the FAD, planning FUDCon panel, review on-boarding
by Justin W. Flory
Hey everyone! We just wrapped up our first meeting at the new time. We
had eleven people participate during the meeting (wow!). We spent most
of our time in the block talking about the FAD planning (especially with
regards to the budgeting process happening now) as well as a diversity
panel at FUDCon APAC in November. We also briefly touched on
on-boarding, but didn't have much time to spend on that.
Please take a minute to review the logs if you were absent. Thanks
everyone for coming out today!

[diversity] Code of Conduct introduction CommBlog post
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all,
Earlier, Amita wrote a draft of an article to introduce and explain the
Code of Conduct to a general audience on the Fedora Community Blog. I
did a quick round of edits and wanted to gather some more feedback and
comments from others about the proposed article.
I'm also including the FPL and soon-to-be FCAIC to check this out too
since I think this post is a big deal in helping broadcast an
interpretation to our Code of Conduct. Want to make sure we get this
shaped right from the start. :)

Please let us know what your thoughts are, all. Thanks!

are in the world).
= = = = = = = = = = = =
* Date: 2016 Sept. 13
* Time: 12:00 UTC

[diversity] Introduction
by Paul Mellors
Hello All
My name is Paul Mellors and I'd like to join the Diversity team.
You can read more about me here - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Paulmellors
I'm also MooDoo in irc.
I'm currently a UK Mentor and Ambassador for the Fedora project and a system administrator in my $day$job.
I feel that being part of this team will help my role as ambassador/mentor for the UK and help me put something else back into the project, being a mentor/ambassador means I need to be aware all aspects of diversity and what a good way to learn and grow :D
Any questions, I'm usually about in the channel, just ask, I'm quite approachable....grrrrr ;)
ThanksPaul M

[diversity] New Diversity Meetings
by María Leandro
Hello all.
Not that many people filled the new meeting time, and it has been a week
since the WIG is out there, the results ended up in 2 options to choose
from:
* Tue: 17:00 - 17:30
* Thu: 16:00 16:30
Please, make this a +1 thread with the date/time of your preference to move
this week the meeting time. Another change will be that we will start with
weekly meetings, instead meetings like we used to have. Having a 30
(expandable) minutes meeting every week will keep us more focus on the
latest updates now that the pagure is quite active.
Have a great week!
