[fedora-d&i] Introduction
by Andy Loven
Hi All,
I've been looking for a way to contribute to the Fedora Project and
community for quite some time and am quite happy to learn about this group!
I'm not much of a coder, so I'm pleased to see there are other ways I can
help out that are more in line with my abilities. Aside from bug
submissions and the occasional forum post, this would be my first time
contributing to a free and open source project in any capacity.
My name is Andy -* hi! *- I've been using Fedora since 2011, and have
worked in HR for almost a decade now - as an Admin, a Generalist, a
Business Partner, and now a Business Analyst. Diversity & Inclusion has
always been a passion and focus of mine, and I consider my proudest
professional moment to be when, as part of a national working group, I
played a part in securing transgender-inclusive health care coverage at a
company of 13,000+ U.S. employees.
I plan to attend the next virtual meeting on 11/2, but in the meantime,
feel free to drop me a line to say hi, or if you have any tips on where to
start - I've been digging through the pagure repo to familiarize myself
with the current happenings, but any tips to help me get oriented would be
much appreciated!
Best,
Andy Loven

[fedora-d&i] Taking a break
by Amita Sharma
Hello Everyone,
Due to some personal reasons, I have to take this hard decision. I have to
take a break from fedora activities till this year end.
I will still try to join the meetings whenever it is possible.
Please let me know if anything important pending on me before I go
completely off the radar (by this week).
Thanks,
Amita

[fedora-d&i] European Language Examples
by Brian (bex) Exelbierd
Hi,
For an unrelated project, someone collected some European diversity
language examples. I thought these might be useful to us as we
continue to tune our own messaging:
Diversity language at European conferences
EuroPython
In CFP: “The Program WG will also set aside a number of slots which
they will then select based on other criteria to e.g. increase
diversity or give a chance to less mainstream topics.”
In Financial Aid info: Criteria for grant eligibility:
Contributors: potential speakers/trainers of EuroPython (people who
submitted a proposal) and all who contribute to EuroPython and/or
Python community projects.
Economic factors: we want everybody to have a chance to come to
EuroPython, regardless of economic situation or income level.
Diversity: we seek the most diverse and inclusive event possible.
Monki Gras diversity and inclusion programme: “designed to support
folks from under-represented groups”...”We want to lower barriers to
participation, and help create opportunities for people. Our
definition of under-represented groups in tech is intentionally wide.
We don’t exclude anyone on the basis of ability, class, colour, gender
or creed.”
PyCon CZ Financial Aid info: “This structure enables us to include
major diversity and outreach programmes such as DjangoGirls”... “This
way, the process attempts to promote a more diverse community event.”
DockerCon Barcelona Diversity Scholarships: “By actively promoting
diversity of all kinds, our goal is make DockerCon a safe place for
all to learn, belong and collaborate.” “The DockerCon Diversity
Scholarship aims to provide the opportunity for members of
underrepresented groups to attend DockerCon without the barrier of
financial strain.”
Open Source Summit Europe Diversity Scholarships: “The Linux
Foundation’s diversity scholarship program provides support to those
from traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized groups in the
technology and/or open source communities (including, but not limited
to: persons identifying as LGBTQ+, women, persons of color, and/or
persons with disabilities) who may not otherwise have the opportunity
to attend Linux Foundation events for financial reasons.”
regards,
bex

[fedora-d&i] New D&I Representative in council - Jona Azizaj
by Amita Sharma
Hello Everyone,
It has been a great journey so far as D&I Representative in council.
But, due to my personal work load and in order to support other member of
the team for the position, I will be stepping down from the position right
after F29 release.
New D&I Representative in council will be Jona Azizaj [1], a long time
Fedora contributor and an old diversity team member. I am happy that we
have someone within the team who will be taking care of the responsibility
and fill the gap. All the very best Jona for the new role.
Thanks & Regards,
Amita

I have interpreted this as approved and am planning to ship stickers
to Beth @ OLF. I need a phone number from Beth before I can ship.

You can still organize a FWD at the Ohio LinuxFest (that would be
awesome :D), but it is late to request budget.
Please let us know how can we help you - for example we have the
resource pack that includes information on Fedora editions / objectives
and more.
Thanks,
Jona
