Hello,
My name is Ashlyn Knox, I'm a fedora user of about 5 years and I'm very excited to be joining the fedora community; this has been a goal of mine since i first started distro hopping and learning about the various linux communities. I'm a strong believer in OSS and want to work with others to expand the fedora community and bring the empowerment that comes with being a linux and oss user.
A bit about my background, I studied anthropology in university and my research at that time focused on studying grass roots activist community organization. Much of my work involved learning about how different groups with often very different goals would work together on common initiatives. I would love to be able to apply what I learned about bringing communities together and creating more inclusive spaces to the fedora D&I team.
Along with UX oriented qualitative data collection methods, I have a lot of experience organizing events and social gatherings (I work as a professional musician and event organizer) and I'm really interested in collaborating to create engaging and creative approaches to build community.
I do a bit of web and graphic design as well and can help with creating advertisements and the like.
Really I'm most excited to be working with others in this world, 6 years ago I would have never dreamed that I could feel competent enough with computers to confidently take this step, and honestly a big difference was seeing how the fedora community presents and that resources that come out of it. So yeah I'm stoked to be part of that action.
On a more personal note, I'm also a queer transwoman and being able to do work that helps empower people from marginalized communities is a very important cause to me.
Anyway, Thank you for reading my little blurb here. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and collaborating on initiatives, Justin commented on the Nest event coming up this week, is it still possible to be a part of that?
Cheers,
Ashlyn (She/her)
