Subject: Job Description
Hi,
Our employment branding team was kind enough to let one of their writers
review our description.
Here is the finished product:
Job summary:
Fedora is a big community that includes contributors from many different
countries, each with their own experiences and historical backgrounds that
contribute to a diverse mix of cultural, educational, and behavioral norms.
To continuously create and foster an inclusive environment in the Fedora
community, it's important to respond to the needs of these contributors. The
Fedora Diversity Advisor Search team is looking for a Fedora Diversity
Advisor to act as a source of support and information for all contributors,
especially those from underrepresented populations, so that issues of
inclusion and equity can be discussed with the planning of multiculturalism
and comfort.
As a Fedora Diversity Advisor, you will act in a supporting role and give
advice on the strategy for diversity issues and equality, as well as promote
inclusion in the Fedora community. You'll also act on diversity parameters
within the community.
Primary job responsibilities:
*
Increase visibility of minority contributors through talks, feature articles,
and awards
*
Make explicit invitations and provide financial support to attend conferences
and give talks
*
Help develop skills by offering targeted workshops and internships
*
Create a welcoming environment by adopting and enforcing codes of conduct
*
Implement equality and diversity plans that will have a big effect on the
Fedora community, i.e. fostering communication, networking, and support
forums with mailing lists and in-person events
Required skills
*
Excellent written communications skills, demonstrated through blog posts or
other written work
*
Understanding of and experience in open source communities
*
Ability to communicate at a moderate technical level about open source
projects
*
Experience writing grants is a plus
*
Experience in similar roles in your past career is a significant advantage
One thing I would consider adding to the requirements is that we expect the
person to have some knowledge / experience of working with historically
underrepresented groups. I don't think it makes sense to consider someone
who doesn't either have first hand experience with this or who hasn't been a
part of some outreach work. As an Advisor, I would expect them to already
have some experience with this.
What do you think?
Best Regards,
Tyler Golden
