Awesome!  This looks really great!

I think we are ready to post it.

Matt, do you have the answer to Amita's question about this being full time / paid vs only part-time, volunteer?

Is that correct?

Tyler

Hi,

This is a very nicely polished description! I edited it a bit to add the following:

 * mentions of users - because Fedora makes software for end-users, there is opportunity for diversity work which will bring more users to the project
 * rearrangement that reflects that the diversity advisor will not necessarily need to implement all possible listed strategies for promoting diversity, but instead will work with Fedora community members on identifying some of the strategies to implement
 * recommendation from Tyler about requiring experience working with underrepresented groups.

Thanks,
Marina

------------------

Fedora is a big community that includes contributors and users from many different countries, each with their own experiences and historical backgrounds that contribute to a diverse mix of cultural, educational, and behavioral norms. To continuously create and foster an inclusive environment in the Fedora community, it's important to respond to the needs of existing contributors and users, and welcome new contributors and users from diverse backgrounds. The Fedora Diversity Advisor Search team is looking for a Fedora Diversity Advisor to act as a source of support and information for all contributors and users, especially those from underrepresented populations, so that issues of inclusion and equity can be discussed and addressed with the planning of multiculturalism and comfort.

Primary responsibilities

 * Implement diversity efforts that will have a big effect on the Fedora community
 * Promote inclusion in the Fedora community
 * Act as a source of support and a mediator should there be any concerns or incidents

To achieve the above you will work with Fedora community members to identify which of the following and other strategies would be most effective and feasible, and help implement them:

 * Increasing visibility of minority contributors and users through talks, feature articles, and awards
 * Making explicit invitations and providing financial support to attend conferences and give talks
 * Helping develop skills by offering targeted workshops and internships
 * Creating a welcoming environment by adopting and enforcing codes of conduct
 * Fostering communication, networking, and support forums with mailing lists and in-person events

Required skills

 * Knowledge of and experience in working with historically underrepresented groups
 * Excellent written communications skills, demonstrated through blog posts or other written work
 * Understanding of and experience in open source communities
 * Ability to communicate at a moderate technical level about open source projects
 * Experience in similar roles in your past is a significant advantage
 * Experience writing grants is a plus

Subject: Job Description

Hi,

Our employment branding team was kind enough to let one of their writers review our description.

Here is the finished product:

Job summary:

Fedora is a big community that includes contributors from many different countries, each with their own experiences and historical backgrounds that contribute to a diverse mix of cultural, educational, and behavioral norms. To continuously create and foster an inclusive environment in the Fedora community, it's important to respond to the needs of these contributors. The Fedora Diversity Advisor Search team is looking for a Fedora Diversity Advisor to act as a source of support and information for all contributors, especially those from underrepresented populations, so that issues of inclusion and equity can be discussed with the planning of multiculturalism and comfort.

As a Fedora Diversity Advisor, you will act in a supporting role and give advice on the strategy for diversity issues and equality, as well as promote inclusion in the Fedora community. You'll also act on diversity parameters within the community.

Primary job responsibilities:

    *

Increase visibility of minority contributors through talks, feature articles, and awards
    *

Make explicit invitations and provide financial support to attend conferences and give talks
    *

Help develop skills by offering targeted workshops and internships
    *

Create a welcoming environment by adopting and enforcing codes of conduct
    *

Implement equality and diversity plans that will have a big effect on the Fedora community, i.e. fostering communication, networking, and support forums with mailing lists and in-person events

Required skills

    *

Excellent written communications skills, demonstrated through blog posts or other written work
    *

Understanding of and experience in open source communities
    *

Ability to communicate at a moderate technical level about open source projects
    *

Experience writing grants is a plus
    *

Experience in similar roles in your past career is a significant advantage

One thing I would consider adding to the requirements is that we expect the person to have some knowledge / experience of working with historically underrepresented groups. I don't think it makes sense to consider someone who doesn't either have first hand experience with this or who hasn't been a part of some outreach work. As an Advisor, I would expect them to already have some experience with this.

What do you think?
