Section 18.1 - Updating Your System, has a link pointing to a non-existent set
of instructions for configuring daily updates with yum. The particular
paragraph is:

"If your Fedora system has a permanent network connection, you may choose to
enable daily system updates. To enable automatic updates, follow the
instructions on the webpage
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/yum/sn-updating-your-system.html."

Is anyone aware of where this doc set may have gone?

Is there still a method for setting up daily system updates using yum?

The dead link Bryan has found used to point to this page:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora_Core/4/html/Software_Management_G...

It offers a single command to update the system daily. This yum guide is no
longer updated, so I could add such a command or procedure to the Installation
Guide.

I've tested the old command in F18 and, unsurprisingly, it doesn't work. The
/etc/ paths no longer exist.

The following wiki page is marked as old and hasn't been updated since 2008
either:

Are you able to offer an updated command, or a procedure if one isn't too
cumbersome? Or should this just be avoided?

The [relatively] current System Administrator's Guide has an extensive section
on yum[1] that we could refer users to for more than basic yum usage
information.

Personally, I think that we do not need to cover automatic updating with yum in
a guide. We generally encourage users to be aware and understanding of any
changes made to their system that require escalated privileges, and our primary
desktop environments are already updating the yum cache on a regular basis and
alerting the user to available updates.

Thanks for that insight, Pete. I agree. I'm going to cancel the needinfo and
remove the paragraph on daily yum updates. I'll also change the reference to
the non-existent yum guide to the Sys Admin Guide.
