The new bookmarks layout causes two problems: 1. Nobody filed a fedora-bookmarks bug so Fedora 13 (and anyone on F-11 or F-12 etc) will default to going to http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/ which is a 404. Since the bookmarks can only be imported on first launch, we cannot push an update to fix this if the user has launched the browser (which is extremely likely). 2. Even if I were to fix the bookmarks page to point directly to a specific release version (which again would take effect only if someone would yum update before launching Firefox), then if anyone updated to F-14, the bookmark would not change and would still point to e.g. F-13. So, I do not think that we should put version specific information into our bookmarks URLs. To solve both of the above problems, I believe we should try to do some User-Agent detection and redirection. Fedora browsers have an RPM NVR attached to them. For example: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; es-ES; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100517 Fedora/3.6.4-1.fc13 Firefox/3.6.4 This tells us that the user's installed language is es-ES and it's a Fedora browser, specifically running F-13. Announce, Release Notes currently in translation

Hi translators, We have updated the Fedora 17 Release Notes POT in transifex.net, please, start translating them: https://fedora.transifex.net/projects/p/fedora-release-notes/ You'll notice that few files (Accounts, Entertainment, Boot, Dedication, Networking, Web_Servers) are not accepting translations, that's because we don't have those sections in the current RN. We will clean that later. You should be able to proofread online at http://fedorapeople.org/groups/docs/release-notes/ Please come back to the docs team if translations are not updated, I haven't checked if they are currently rebuilt daily (they should). Be aware that we could update the some bit of the Release Notes if feel the need to. I could already told you that Security.po will be lighter as the firewalld will probably be dropped (feature moved to F18). <= jjmcd, please? Sincere apologies for being this late to provides POTs, we still are setting the right process and writing some scripts… And the maitainers thought that we already had them on transifex. Release Notes Packaging

I updated the page about pushing the release notes: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Getting_the_release_notes_to_Bodhi to reflect some of the d-p-r steps in a little more detail, particularly the edits to the spec file which I often forget. I also made some minor tweaks to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Preparing_the_Release_Notes_for_final_release to reflect the new URL for tx At 10,000 feet the steps are: 1. Update the revision history 2. Remove the draft tag 3. Build all languages to be packaged 4. Grab the specfile from fedpkg 5. Edit the specfile changelog and description 6. Run d-p-r using the edited specfile 7. Do a scratch build to double-check 8. Give fedpkg the tar and spec made by d-p-r 9. Go get karma Sounds like a lot but usually it takes about an hour. --McD

Error occurred when trying to make a draft release notes PDF

Hi guys, I was trying to make a draft release notes PDF by using the command: "publican build --embedtoc --publish --formats pdf --langs zh-CN" under my own translation git branch. An error occurs and prevents publican from completing the job. The error output is: "Validation failed: Cloud.xml:75: validity error : Element primary is not declared in title list of possible children" I checked xml file under en-US/Cloud.xml, but I don't know what to do. I don't know xml. The following steps were done before I did publican build 1. git pull git://git.fedorahosted.org/git/docs/release-notes.git master 2. tx pull -l zh_CN How can I solve the error? -- Regards, Tiansworld Fedora Project Contributor

[Bug 752059] MajorMod: Manually Upgrading the Kernel: Update for GRUB 2

Hi, First post to this list. I've offered various observations on devel@ and Fedora Forums on: general boot behavior, with emphasis on making dual and triple booting work on Macs; issues surrounding MBR and GPT partitioning schemes; and the lunatic asylum of (U)EFI, CSM-BIOS and BIOS mode booting of hardware. I see the bug is assigned, but no activity since Nov 2011. If agreeable, I can take on an edit for F16 which would also carry over to F17. The fix is very straightforward. As described in the bug, primarily it's removal of the bulk of existing text, because the current text is almost entirely obsoleted by GRUB2. And then documenting the proper command for the included GRUB2 script that causes the regeneration of a new grub.cfg. I'd expect the section to be cut in size and complexity by 80%, accounting for a mention of perhaps three optional custom configurations that admins may find useful. And probably also include some note to the effect that direct editing of the grub.cfg is not recommended by upstream, therefore advanced users who do edit the file are advised grub.cfg can be overwritten without notice, and are better off making their custom inclusions in the proper /etc/grub.d files, and then executing the regeneration script. Basically, start simple and general purpose, and then get to a few specific examples. And leave the rest to upstream documentation. A bit more complicated right now is bug 750108. It might be best to remove the current material, and reference Anaconda's option to configure this at install time as the absolute easiest way to deal with it. And reference upstream's documentation until someone gets around to writing a reasonable step by step for doing it post-install. Better than than obsolete material that won't work. Chris Murphy

FIRE!!! Yeah I know, I am boring, but hey, we just need to have the current status of the RN, if it needs few commits, we do them, if it is ready, we just push to transifex.net. There current problem could be: jjmcd is always dealing with RN. But if he is too busy, we need to finish by ourselves… Could someone check the RN status? FUDCON Malaysia Book

G'day folks, So we're going to "write a book at FUDCON". Participation in this crowd-sourcing experiment will not be limited people physically at FUDCON; anyone, anywhere on Earth with a FAS account and internet access will be able to participate. I want to make the book something as accessible as possible, as the main things here are to trial the approach and give people an opportunity to use the system. So something deeply technical like "Advanced SELinux Policy Writing Guide" is not a good candidate. So I'm thinking of a book along these lines: "Introducing Fedora" It contains user stories ("my first Fedora"), anecdotes ("the best and the worst"), use cases ("What I'm doing with Fedora"), a chapter on Downloading and Installing (with links to more detailed documentation), what to try ("cool things in Fedora"), and where to go for more information / help. What do you think? - Josh

Docs summary/update for L10n?

Hi there, Could someone please send a summary of all guides that we should translate for F17? (I could then forward to translators). The meetings#guide_status wiki page is not too explicit. The ready (beta) ones and the one that should be ready soon. A wiki link should do it, but that would be really appreciated to have docs member telling translators what is or will be up to date. As a translator coordinator and a docs member/publisher, even by reading (not all) meeting minutes, I have a hard time to know the guide status… I can't even imagine for other translators. The Beta release notes should be ready now, you agree? I don't know if you guys are aware of this last minute change, but the FESCo decided yesterday to drop the firewalld feature for F17, as it appear to be not ready. jjmcd, please update the release notes ;). Open Help Conference

Hi folks, I'm hosting the Open Help Conference & Sprints again this year, August 11-15. I know a lot of Fedora people were interested last year, but nobody was able to make it. I hope to see some friendly Fedora faces this year. http://openhelpconference.com/ The main conference is August 11-12. This is followed by multiple team sprints August 13-15. I'd love to see a Fedora sprint, and perhaps have a Fedora/GNOME meetup to see how we can better help each other. The presentation proposal period is now open, so if you'd like to share something cool with the world, let me know. Installation Quick Start Guide

Hi guys, A couple of questions about this guide: (i) In tx.net for the Spanish translations we are using the language code 'es', but this guide is using 'es_ES'. I pulled all the 'es_ES' translations, copied them into an 'es-ES' folder inside the guide directory, but when I tried to upload them into tx.net as 'es' ($ tx push -t -l es), I get this error: Warning: No mapping found for language code 'es-ES'. KeyError: 'es-ES' ii) After cloning the repo of this guide [2], there are 114 *.xml 'en-US' files against 84 resources in tx.net. Is this correct? Hi, I just wrote about Custumizing Desktop for User Guide and I see that the Gnome part use screenshots but to write kde part I didn't take screenshots.I think, it imbalance the page contents. So it is all right like that ? Do I need to take screenshots or remove existing ? I hesitate.
