Context. Sorry, but that's the way English is. Only words that are
proper nouns get capitalized. That's why it should never be 'Open
Source' but always 'open source', etc.
Yeah, even the "free/libre" idea is stylistically lacking at best, and
at worst, ugly and confusing absent the context. Our message is pretty
clear without resorting to goofy slashes or hyphenates. :-)
