If you haven't been paying attention to the Publican list recently then you may not
have seen that Publican 3 is now out. IIRC it has only been pushed to users of RHEL for
now. This is a major accomplishment for the Publican team and we'll begin reaping the
benefits as soon as we can figure out the web site of the house.
One piece of this puzzle is the ability to replace fop with wkhtmltopdf as the engine to
create PDFs. Unfortunately there is a problem with wkhtmltopdf that prevents us from
using it in Fedora. This means that for the time being we'll have to continue to use
fop but that isn't a great solution. I can't recall all the problems with fop,
off hand, but I hear that wkhtmltopdf is both better and worse.
I'm hoping that Rudi will give us a rundown on the issues with wkhtmltopdf and what
needs to happen to get it into Fedora. I'll volunteer to help package it if we know
the what the issues are and can get a game plan around fixing them.

Yes, I spoke to Rudi about this. wkhtmltopdf isn't in RHEL6/EPEL6 but fop is in RHEL6
so it's not needed for EPEL5. fop it broken in EPEL5 and I'm trying to fix it.
Right now there are problems with wkhtmltopdf that are preventing it being packaged. I am
hoping that I'll have time to look at this and perhaps work upstream with QT to remedy
the problems. That said, I'm actively working to get fop fixed. Right now I am a
co-maintainer for fop in Fedora but I haven't been able to get access to the EPEL5
branch.
If there are any specific problems with fop in Fedora please file a bug so I can try to
remedy them.

I have no major problems with fop on F17 (not sure what version of
Publican is being used, will need to look). The only issues I'm
seeing are the type that don't prevent building of a document (e.g.,
missing font or hyphenation package). As they're problem supported by
a package that I've yet to install, haven't considered them to need a
bug report.
