Both Openlessons.org and Openlessons.com are taken, the latter being a
site with resources for learning about FLOSS programs, but not really
for educators.
I've made a link on the K12OpenSource.com site for "Lesson Plans" that
goes to the wiki http://openlessons.wikispaces.com and that could
serve as a good place for this. I posted Daniels initial email there.
If someone wants to outline the categories for the lesson plans, we
can be on our way. We can also promote this at NECC big time.

RHCE Exams connection know-how
by Claude Yu
Hi there,
I hope if someone knows and advises me on this.
If I were to practise Fedora Core 5 2006 instead of Redhat Linux(any version),
will I be able to match to all the study points of RHCE exam. Are they meant almost the same ?
Points are I seem find nowhere to download the latest Redhat to practise with,
I mean a free version, that can be even better for me to make a prompt switch to match their study components exactly.
As a matter of fact, can anyone tell if there is a Linux Exam for Fedora users and the study points for
that exam?
Pls reply to my email: claudeyu(a)optusnet.com.au and your help will be mostly
appreciated.
Best regards,

Volunteers Still Needed for Open Source Lab at NECC 2006
by Steve Hargadon
We're still looking for some more volunteers to help with the Open Source
Lab at NECC 2006, July 5 - 7 in San Diego. Those who volunteer get free
entrance to the show and exhibit hall (you have to register regularly to
attend any sessions outside the Open Source Lab, however). Students who
volunteer get lunch each day!
Information about the Open Source Lab is at http://necc2006.pbwiki.com. You
can sign up there as a volunteer, or look to see all that we have going on.
This is a very unique opportunity, as we have great support from NECC, a
25-seat lab/lecture area, a terrific lineup of speakers. an open source
email garden, and six hand-on Open Source booths to showcase Free and Open
Source Software.
We really do need help. If you are close enough to attend, we'll take you
for any amount of time you can give! No prerequisites for volunteering--if
you are willing to learn and be helpful, we'll take you.
Many thanks!

Open Source and Education Book

Steve -
That is great news! I really think an Open Source and Education book
will make a huge difference - both for transmission of information
(many people hate reading long texts from screens) and perhaps more
importantly for legitimacy reasons. 'If there is a book written about
it, then it must be important' is a common sentiment.
BTW - I saw a copy of the June Scholastic's Administrator magazine
yesterday. The cover article is 'THINK BIG - 10 radical ideas to try
next year'. One of the 10 ideas is 'Trash Windows and go Open Source"
by Jim Hirsch (p.28).
And so the drum beat continues....
See you in July.

NECC 2006 Open Source Lab Wiki
by Steve Hargadon
I've just finished placing a wiki for the Open Source lab at NECC 2006 at
http://necc2006.pbwiki.com/. July 5 - 7 in San Diego at the San Diego
Convention Center.
It should be a really fun event. We are still looking for volunteers to
help staff the six booths that we will have, or to just come and help at the
lab. The initial conference reception is being held in the same part of the
convention center as the lab, so we're going to get lots of good exposure.
Please contact me if you want to help in any way.
