Hi,
A new kicad version will coming soon. And I think it's now time to think about the future of kicad package.
kicad really lacks of component and footprint libraries (last upstream commit is 7 months old and upstream seems to don't see the library bug reports (autism???)).
So, I think it will be a good idea to split the kicad package in two packages: kicad and kicad-libraries, so, we will be able to provide new libraries without building a new kicad package.
What do you think about that?
Regards Alain
Hello Alain,
If upstream didn't update the component and footprint libraries, who will provide you "new" libraries ?
regards, Chitlesh

There are many kicad libraries available on the web: - kicad users yahoo group (subscription needed to access to the files) http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/kicad-users/files/ http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/kicad-users/files/Library/
http://kicadlib.org/ I don't know how work this webmaster, but I sent him a well featured library (http://www.epcos.com/inf/20/20/db/fc_2009/MKT_B32520_529.pdf), all footprints with 3D, more than 3 weeks ago, and I don't get any answer from him. And I just see he updated his site 4 days ago ;-(
So, if I can find serious contributors, I plan to create (yet another) web site to collect libraries.
