Rethink our Latam Community

Yesterday, in our weekly meeting we had an interesting discussion, one of our ambassadors asked Brian if was possible to hold the Fudcon this year. Brian's answer was clear: "I consider it very possible that we could have a FUDCon LATAM this year, but only if we know why we are doing it. It isn't the case that Fedora won't choose, it is the case that you have to make a case for why and what will happen" Having an annual event is not a matter only of a contributor meeting, is adding collaborators to our community, adding users to our distro, etc. Some of the self-questions Brian advised to do were: What audience do you want to attract? What do you want them to do after you contact them? (i.e. install Fedora, contribute, etc.) What are you going to do to influence their behavior? Please, give your opinion here, we need to rethink all our strategy as a community and we need your input. Welcome your ideas and your thoughts about this one.

[Spanish] Hola Latam, hace un tiempo pedimos para Perú presupuesto para pedir Swag, les comento que aun no lo hemos ejecutado, nuestra idea principalmente era producir el Swag en EEUU y que luego se envíe a Perú, entonces fue idea de Bex que podríamos hacer un pedido más grande para todo Latam, por eso es que hace una semana atrás cree un ticket para hablar de este tema. https://pagure.io/ambassadors-latam/tasks/issue/406 Me gustaria saber sus opiniones ya que si decidimos hacer esto, necesitamos hablar de los diseños, cantidades, que tipo de swag se producirá, Actualmente en Perú optamos por estos diseños: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Swag_Peru_2017#Designe La wiki para el swag de Latam es la siguiente: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Swag_latam Como verán está semivacía pero ya lo llenaremos cuando tengamos diseños y demas cosas. Buenas noches amigas y amigos fedorianos, acabo de contactar con el organizador del I Congreso Nacional de Estudiantes de Computación, Innovación y Tecnologías que se llevara a cabo desde el 14 al 18 de agosto de este año en la ciudad de Tingo Maria en Peru. Hi Latam team, Today I talk with bex at telegram about FUDCon. It looks like we had the information wrong: FUDCon is not dead, but it isn't alive either. The conversation flows about money and objectives: There is no new request to get money for something, so I am confused as to > why I see so much depression. there is money - it just needs justification > Council reduced Q1 budgets to get us through the mission conversation > There is no desire to directly cut the regions, but we would like to align > spending project wide around the mission and ensure that we are having > impact or expecting to have impact. That we are reviewing outcomes, etc. > And that we know why we are doing things. > As an example, the FUDCon budget lines were removed as the current FUDCons > weren't having the kind of impact they were supposed to. By removing those > budget line items we didn't eliminate the money > Also he clarify: instead we eliminated the requirement that it has to be used as a FUDCon - > this is especially true where something different might be better. > However, if the best use in a region is a FUDCon that is very possible > There is DEFINITELY money. We just want to allocate it based on a plan > with justifications and goals. We aren't defaulting to saying here is $$ > for FUDCon no questions asked > So there are good news, FUDCon is possible yet. The only requirement is to be clear about the objectives we want to accomplish with having a FUDCon in an specific location. For example, the Bid for Latinoware (Brazil/Paraguay) was read and still don't answer the Council questions: - Justification about the location. - Which are the goals of the FUDCon on Latinoware. - What will be the impact we expect for the FUDCon? - What are we doing to achieve these goals specifically? - Why do we think we will be successful? - How do we continue this work after FUDCon? This was taked as example, but IMHO all bids lacks of this information. Remember that the project is changing the mission and we need to align with this. For now, the ones who still wants to have a FUDCon needs to refocus their bids and try to answer the Council's questions. The messages is: Focus and efforts needs to be measure, we need to think in the impact we want to cause with each event, and we need to be able to reflect that impact. Hi ambassadors, I see with sadness today's meeting logs. Words like this: 23:23:41 <fredlima> echevemaster: you can delay how long you want, but we will make an brazilian mentor.23:23:46 <fredlima> accept that I think are unacceptable. That is one of the reasons why I suggest to discuss the process to candidate mentors [1]. But it looks like nobody is neither reading emails or issues/tickets, and in meetings never is everybody. I suggest to everybody NOT TO VOTE for mentors until rules are set. Now there is already one complaint about one of the candidates and this happens because the lack of rules, and this rules needs to be established only for our Region. I will put my suggestions of rules in the ticket 402, I hope everyone can follow my lead an we can set the rules in one week.
