Over the last FudCons on Latam, we have some how try to response some of those questions and at the same time fail at them, must of the time because we have no way to measure results and sometimes our objectives are not well define. Like to mention recent
FudCons not to ask questions or try to blame any one, but to show why we are asked them now, and see if it help to show what we need to do to improve.
FudCon Puno, was basically User oriented, but there are no results how many users join Fedora o started used Fedora, not new contributors added to Fedora as far as I know.
FudCon Cordova, was oriented to Users and Contributions, user part no accountable, contributions on the event? , no results as far as I know.
FudCon Managua, was Contributions oriented, in this case we can show some results, Latam contributors start helping on Fedora Websites plus Nicaragua community rase their membership and contributions on other areas of Fedora (mainly packaging and translation),
it also empower Nicaragua contributors some of them are the ones we read on the meetings and are well involve in the community.
FudCon Cusco, was user oriented, added many users (how ever there is no way to measure properly) and added new contributors to the project it developed a strong Peru community, some of the are on the meetings and taking leadership on Fedora Latam. It also
added some packagers not sure about translators or infra.
FudCon Valencia, was user oriented, not many user I believe were engage, but added 2 contributors one of them started this tread, the other may (think did at the begining) contribute to Fedora but is not really active on the community.
FudCon Panama, was user oriented, added many users ( how ever there is no way to measure properly) and added new contributors as packagers, translators, infra and devel.
Before FudCon Panama there was two other Fudcons Chile and Brasil, but since I was not involve on the FudCon organization or participation and reports were really rare cannot express any result measurable or not.
On my point of view there are 3 FudCons that bring something to Fedora (Panama, Cusco and Managua) looking in the amount of investment and the results.
Here is what I think help those 3 FudCons to get some results.
Panama, Cusco and Managua, had some how strong FOSS and Fedora community, that community work all together to get the FudCon success, it also had a plan on how it get people involve on Fedora.
In Panama, Guillermo Gomex on Fedora Gomix, came to the FudCon with the goal to make packagers, of people he has already been prepare before the event and some that join him after his talk, Tatica came with the idea to help Juan Barba on Fedora Xhaksx
on how to help on Fedora design, Itamar help on getting people into packaging and will never forget Toshio showing people infra and development which let Luis Bazan on Fedora lbazan and Abdel Martinez on Fedora Potty into Infra and devel. It also make other
ambassadors and some other people that are well know today on the community like Kiara Navarro on Fedora Sophiekovalevsky to mention some. Valentin Basel on Fedora valentinbasel to get contributors to Icaro project and get its code improve by Toshio.
After the FudCon Fedora Panama community has grow with the work of many of the people I had mention here.
In Cusco, we added several ambassadors from other regions of Peru, like the team that organize FudCon Puno, work with other Peru communities like Drupal, and some of the ambassadors join packagers and translators. There was not previous prep it was work
on site, we also try to work on the ambassadors budget and procedures to manage it.
In Managua, previous preparation was planned it help getting everyone on the same page, we work after the users event at night together to get packagers, translators and the web team thanks to the participation of Robert Mayr on Fedora robyduck from Fedora
Websites.
Hope this help you get a way to answer some of the questions, and remember it is good to see what we had done before to learn and improve on the Future.

Yesterday, in our weekly meeting we had an interesting discussion, one of our ambassadors asked Brian if was possible to hold the Fudcon this year.
Brian's answer was clear:
"I consider it very possible that we could have a FUDCon LATAM this year, but only if we know why we are doing it. It isn't the case that Fedora won't choose, it is the case that you have to make a case for why and what will happen"
Having an annual event is not a matter only of a contributor meeting, is adding collaborators to our community, adding users to our distro, etc.
Some of the self-questions Brian advised to do were:
What audience do you want to attract?
What do you want them to do after you contact them? (i.e. install Fedora, contribute, etc.)
What are you going to do to influence their behavior?
Please, give your opinion here, we need to rethink all our strategy as a community and we need your input. Welcome your ideas and your thoughts about this one.
