Neville mention the history as it was. I do agreed with him with the issue that latam face
with distribution of Ambassadors Polo, this is an issue that comes and goes in latam, as
new people comes we stumble with the same issues.
I have to agree with Nevile specially because import and export of goods between latam
countries remain the same as before.

Hello,
As mentioned in the last meeting, I would love us to get to a final
conclusion on producing polo shirts for ambassadors AND t-shirts as
swags. It seems that every time someone brings this up, there are
opposing opinions on the matter.
First, I invite you to read this thread:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/ambassadors@lists.fedorapro...
Then, the questions are:
Where do we stand on polo shirts for ambassadors?
Where do we stand on t-shirts as swag for events?
Finally, I would like to write a draft with all these rules, since
what we have now seems to be outdated. On this proposal, I would also
propose a change on our voting system. It seems that a more fair
voting system would allow more people to vote. That could be achieved
by allowing people to vote on tickets. What are your opinion on this?
The idea would be to vote just like everybody else: on tickets (as I
see, only more important decisions are taken during meetings through
Fedora, like the GO/NO-GO meeting.
I am sorry I brought up 2 topics in the same thread, but this seems
like an oportunity for us to (re)write some guides for LATAM
together, making things more explicit and closer to the other
processes around the project.
I would like to review the past a bit to provide context for
newcomers. This is not my opinion, it is just facts.
It was stated that Fedora will no provide personal items like polo
t-shirts. EMEA had in place a way to produce centrally a distribute the
polos and plain cotton shirts with logo. Ambassadors had to pay for
this and the benefit was cheaper price for bulk production. As far as I
know NA had some bulk orders and some people doing their own polos.
Brazil produced some polos with a custom logo. Not sure how those were
paid, but I think they were paid by each individual.
Every FUDCON distribute t-shirt to participants.
There was production of t-shirts as swag to give in events.
This is the way it was a few years ago. Then some other things happened.
There was in latam a production of polo for packagers. There was the
10th anniversry t-shirt sent to selected people around the globe, which
cause grievance as some people were not selected. There was the
Shroedinger translation t-shirt that was also cause of grievance as not
everybody knew they can work to get one.
There is the fact that in latam we can not produce bulk and sent polos
to every collaborator because we will have proble with import taxes, and
we do not have in each country one person that can handle the
importation process and later be reimbursed for the taxes paid.
So far I have stated facts. Now this is my opinion.
We should not made polos or t-shirts for collaborators because we can
NOT make a fair process due import-export limitations.
We can make t-shirt as swag and the local team can award to
collaborators in the event one t-shirt each. A collaborator can get up
to two t-shirt from swag per year. The production of swag has to be
swag, it is out of the question to produce 12 t-shirt that is the size
of the organizing team for an event. That would be bending the rules.
I will happy to change my opinion when we have a fair process to reach
every single collaborator and provide them with personal items in a way
that reflect their commitment to the project. So there is the
import-export issue solved, but also a clear guide how to work to win
a polo or t-shirt.
Regarding votes... I think that we should review the relax consensus
that it is used to reach desions non critical that allow people to vote
in a issue from pagure (before it was a ticket from trac). But to mark
items that are critical or controversial and need a special case, that
may be also voted in an issue, but a reminder of this is communicated
to the general region. The bigger the matter, the more people need to
voice their opinion and cast a vote. So itr make sense open the
issue and give time to vote.
Selecting venue for a premier event, should be done in the fedora
voting system.
Best regards
Neville
