Agenda for Env-and-Stacks WG meeting (2015-02-26)
by Honza Horak
HEADS UP -- new time and place; since we would have a collision in
#fedora-meeting and it seems to be better to have meetings on the same
channel every week, let's meet at #fedora-meeting-2.
WG meeting will be at 13:00 UTC (08:00 EST, 14:00 Brno, 8:00 Boston,
22:00 Tokyo, 23:00 Brisbane) in #fedora-meeting-2 on Freenode.

Re: Recommended practices for creating docker files
by Petr Hracek
Hi Marek,
thanks for the updates.
I am going to briefly check you guidelines if they can be used for
writing a wiki about dockerfiles and other stuff.
Greetings.

We're currently restructurizing the guidelines, since most of this is also covered in OpenShift guidelines available here: http://docs.openshift.org/latest/image_writers_guide/guidelines.html. I'm unsure if a wiki page that duplicates this is a good idea (since this will be another place to keep up to date). Instead a wiki page that links to relevant resources and adds there what's missing is a better idea I think.

Meeting minutes for Env-and-Stacks WG meeting (2015-02-12)

#fedora-meeting-2: Env and Stacks (2015-02-12)

Meeting started by hhorak at 13:08:40 UTC. The full logs are available

Meeting summary
---------------
* Env&Stacks Governance Charter Review as per

(hhorak, 13:10:15)
* AGREED: (phracek, 13:12:15)
* ACTION: all to read Governance charter and if there are any issues
that should be revisited, let's bring them on ML or add them to
agenda for some of the next weeks (hhorak, 13:12:29)
* Follow-ups -- what has changed since last meeting (hhorak, 13:12:55)
* update about devpi - upstream wanted us to create a formal proposal
for the feature we need. I passed the work on to Matej Stuchlik and
we now have the proposal for upstream
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/devpi-dev/py-B9kwaK5Y and
are waiting for comments (hhorak, 13:13:32)
* the devpi feature seems to be the only blocker. once it's done, we
can go on and deploy devpi testing instance (hhorak, 13:16:17)

* LINK: http://pulp-python.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ (ncoghlan,
13:16:47)
* the plan is the package would get into fedora, then its upstream
would be mirrored, at least for the time being (hhorak, 13:22:38)
* longer term, the upstream packaging may be mirrored first and a
potentially non-policy compliant RPM got into COPR (hhorak,
13:22:38)
* PEP 426 should allow autopackage stuff from devpi instance to rpm
(hhorak, 13:26:16)

major issues (ncoghlan, 13:31:31)
* LINK: https://people.gnome.org/~walters/docs/build-api.txt
(hhorak, 13:34:16)
* it would be nice to have a tool independent "How do we build this?"
description format (ncoghlan, 13:34:33)
* LINK: https://github.com/jpakkane/meson/wiki/IDE-integration
(ncoghlan, 13:34:41)
* DevConf legacy -- something interesting from DevConf we should mention
here? (hhorak, 13:40:37)
* it makes things simple and more clear to have scls in current
dist-git in special branches.. it will be easier to implement in rcm
and pkgdb. (hhorak, 14:00:26)
* First, we need to have the guidelines if this way is fine, some
agreement for branches naming, etc.. (hhorak, 14:00:26)
* Open Floor (hhorak, 14:04:48)
Meeting ended at 14:15:08 UTC.

by Honza Horak
HEADS UP -- new time and place; since we would have a collision in
#fedora-meeting and it seems to be better to have meetings on the same
channel every week, let's meet at #fedora-meeting-1.

22:00 Tokyo, 23:00 Brisbane) in #fedora-meeting-1 on Freenode.
I might be online, depending on internet connection on the conference,
but Vasek seemed fine with chairing the meeting. Thanks Vasek!

ACTION REQUIRED: Seeking for Env & Stacks WG meeting time + meeting this week?
by Honza Horak
Hi guys, specially new members (CC'd just in case you don't follow this
ML yet),
there almost were elections and there have also been some complaints
about the meeting time when we meet on IRC every week, let me start
picking up a new time for the meeting.
Since we have quite big timezone difference even between voting members
and there are other guys in the world who would like to join
discussions, let's do what we used to do already in the beginning, let's
pick up two times and alternate on odd/even weeks.
So, voting members of Env and Stacks WG and also others who would like
to attend the IRC meeting, please, fill in your availability here until
1st Feb 23:59:
http://whenisgood.net/2h8sceq
(voting members will be obviously preferred if no perfect time for all
is found)
Another thing is that I'll be not available this week for the meeting.
But in case somebody volunteers to hold one, I'm sure we'll have still a
lot to say about the rings and the feedback given on the devel ML.

No Env-and-Stacks WG meeting (2015-02-05)
by Honza Horak
WG meeting should be newly on Thu at 13:00 UTC on odd weeks and at 18:00
UTC on even weeks (this week is even). But since nobody volunteered to
hold one, let's meet the next week, Thu 13:00 UTC.

Let's meet at DevConf
by Honza Horak
As we have a new time for the meeting (see mail sent few minutes
before), the meeting should be on Thursday at 6pm this week (even week).
Unfortunately, I'm not available at that time, so I cannot organize the
meeting. But if anybody wants to hold the meeting, please do so and send
the invitation.
Then I'd like to remind you that there are two special events related to
Env & Stacks group at DevConf [3], which takes place this weekend in Brno.
First, there is a session on Sunday 12:30 - 13:10 (Discuss Environment
and Stacks in Fedora). I plan to show some slides there that will
probably be based on Flock session last year in Prague. I'll share some
slides here on the ML later today. I would like to ask you to adjust the
slides and also come to the session with me, since I wish most the time
it will be discussion and ideas sharing session.
Second, this was already mentioned before -- meet-up of Env&Stacks folks
(members and friends) who come to Brno for DevConf this weekend. So,
let's meet on Saturday, around 7pm directly at the venue, where should
be some "Open Buffet @ University!" [2]. We can talk there or continue
to some pub later.
Looking forward to seeing you guys!
Honza

New Python -> OS package project: pyospkg
by Nick Coghlan
Marcus Smith (one of the core pip developers and lead author of
packaging.python.org) has started exploring some ideas around a
possible PyPI build service.
pyospkg is one of the pieces of that:
http://pyospkg.readthedocs.org/en/latest/overview.html
As Marcus himself says, this is vapourware at the moment, but it
encapsulates a range of ideas that I think are relevant to
Environments & Stacks. In particular, the notion of building for a
particular virtual env may help with tooling UX ideas around building
for particular SCLs.
Regards,
Nick.
