Hey folks, I was just wonder what the status is here? Does epylog still function on modern-ish python versions? 2.7? 3.X?
any committers still working on it?
thanks -sv
I'm running it on CentOS 4, Python 2.3 - and love it :)

Well, I just did "yum install epylog ; epylog --last day" on a Fedora 14 system (python 2.7), and it seemed to function as expected.
The main thing that I'm aware of that could use some serious love is the weed_dist.cf file. Lot of syslog messages have changed since that file was last updated, and it was never very extensive to begin with. Starting out with a more useful set of obvious filters could make this a much more useful tool for admins.
Hrm, would be kinda cool if a bunch of us heavy users could submit our weed_local.cf files to a central location, run some sort of comparison script on them, and any patterns that appear in more than N% of them could be considered for addition to weed_dist.cf in an updated release.
Just dreamin' out loud... :)

Why not post them to the list or on the epylog trac wiki
-sv
I never got around to doing any substantial Epylog development, but I really encourage people to put their weed_local files on trac. We might be able to put them to good use.

Why not indeed. I'd be happy to post mine (closing in on 5000 patterns) if folks might find it useful, though I should spend a bit of effort to clean out some of the site-specific patterns first. I just wouldn't want anyone to blindly grab my pattern list and deploy it, since there are almost certainly some important messages that we ignore in our environment for one reason or another but which others probably would want to see.
I'll put this on my to-do list, and hopefully I'll be able to post something in a few days.

Done. Added a section to the Tips And Tricks page https://fedorahosted.org/epylog/wiki/TipsAndTricks and uploaded my (hopefully mostly) de-localized sample weed_local.cf file.
Had to gzip it because it was 274468 bytes, and trac has an attachment size limit of 262144. :)
Now I'd encourage some of the rest of you who have put a lot of effort into building your own weed_local.cf files to upload yours as well. This would be the first step to having a useful dataset from which to draw future additions to weed_dist.cf.
cheers, - Paul
Hi!
I use it on a Ubuntu Server 10.04, python version 2.6. Works very well, just get a warning: /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/epylog/publishers.py:590: DeprecationWarning: the MimeWriter module is deprecated; use the email package instead import StringIO, MimeWriter
