Hi Abhishek, thanks for reaching out to me! Sorry for the late response
from me to get back to you. I assume this was from the FOSS Wave
on-boarding call on Sept. 18!
Glad to know you are enthusiastic about contributing to Fedora! I think
there are plenty of ways you can contribute to the project, and I'd be
happy to help offer some pointers to get you started. I've CC'd the
fedora-join mailing list in this reply to help allow some others in the
community to offer feedback too. I recommend subscribing to this mailing
list while you get started so you can see other replies as well.

To get started with contributing to Fedora, like I mentioned in the
call, you want to get involved with something that is personally
interesting and engaging to you. You mentioned you are familiar with the
basics of C and C++. What are some of your current technical skills, or
areas you are a little familiar with and want to improve? Also, what
kind of areas in Fedora interest you? If you're not familiar with all of
the different areas of Fedora, take a look at this website to get a feel
for the different areas you can contribute.

Let us know what some of your interests are and we'd be happy to offer
you further pointers. :)

Outreachy - remote internships in Free and Open Source Software
by Amita
Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) is software that gives the user the
freedom to use, share, study, and improve it. FOSS contributors believe
that this is the best way to develop software because it benefits
society, creates a fun collaborative community around a project, and
allows anyone to make innovative changes that reach many people.
In an effort to improve diversity in FOSS, a number of organizations are
offering remote and mentored Outreachy internships through a program
organized by Software Freedom Conservancy. These internships are open
internationally to all women (cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer
people. Additionally, they are open in the U.S, to all Black/African
American, Hispanic/Latin@, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native
Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander people. The stipend for the program is
$5,500 (USD). Applicants must be available for full-time, 40-hours a
week, internships. The application deadline is October 17, 2016 and the
internship dates are December 6, 2016 to March 6, 2017. College students
from the Southern Hemisphere who will have a school summer break during
most of this time are particularly encouraged to apply.
Coding, user experience design, documentation, bug triage, community
engagement, and other types of projects are available. To apply, you
need to connect with a participating organization early, select a
project you want to work on, make a few relevant contributions with the
help of a mentor, and create a project plan.
Learn more at http://outreachy.org
Please consider applying for Outreachy, encourage someone else to apply,
or help spread the word by forwarding this message to any interested
university and community groups.
To learn more, please join mentors, coordinators, and alums of Outreachy
for a Twitter chat with a hashtag #OutreachyChat at 3pm UTC on September
21 (11am EST).

New join.fedoraproject.org website - what do you think?
by Ankur Sinha
Hello,
I've never liked the current join.fedoraproject.org[0] site - it
redirects to an ugly wiki page which is pretty much a massive data
dump. It is unreadable, unfriendly, and boring - all three virtues that
would drive away potential contributors instead of attracting them.
So, in the spirit of free and open source software, I've hacked up a
replacement[1]. I would love your feedback on this. The idea is to
polish this up and use this as join.fedoraproject.org. At the moment,
it is only a prototype - even the name is going to change ;)
There are a couple of issues open already, please comment on the
relevant ones, or file new ones[2], or you can just reply to this e-
mail with your comments :)
Newbies - this is your chance to tell us what you think!

by Saikeo Kavhanxay
Dear Team,
My name is Saikeo from Vientiane, Laos. I am open source enthusiastic. Currently I work whit GNOME which I teach GNOME to speak Lao language. I have some idea to attract new comer in Laos to join Fedora and make contribution into Fedora community in the future. I have plan to start weekend open source events which I will be held in every weekend at National University of Laos. My goal is teaching younger people to use open source, promote and I think I will use Fedora as OS to teach theme.
That's all and thanks for your reading.
Thank you.
