Hi everyone, I'm Pedro! I've been using Fedora as the operating system on my personal computer for the past two years, and I've been enjoying it a lot. It's great to use such a stable OS while also having access to up-to-date software.
Despite using Fedora for two years, I've been in touch with FOSS for over four years, starting when I first used Linux, specifically Linux Mint. When I discovered the philosophy behind FOSS, it became clear to me that this is the right way to build software, in a transparent and user-respectful way. Since then, I've been eager to contribute to an open source project that impacts people's lives.
I’ve never actually contributed to an open source project before, so this would be my first time. However, I do have professional experience in a few different areas. I worked for three years as a Quality Assurance Engineer and almost two years as a Back-end Developer. In addition, my master’s project is related to kernel development (specifically network infrastructure).
As for how I could contribute to Fedora, I’m interested in working in one of following areas: Software Development, DevOps, or Packaging. While I don’t have much experience in the last two, I see this as a great opportunity to develop new skills while making meaningful contributions to the project. Here is a list of technologies I have experience with:
- Programming Languages: Python, C++, Go, Rust, Java, Bash
- Build: Make, CMake, Apache Maven
- Testing Automation: Robot Framework, Cypress, Playwright, Grafana k6
- Other tools: Docker, Git, Mosquitto, RabbitMQ, Nginx, Kong
Regarding communication, I've never used mailing lists before, but they don't seem very complicated. I expect to get the hang of it rather quickly. My main communication platforms for work have been Slack and Discord.
To conclude, I expect to be able to contribute four to six hours per week. This could vary to more hours, but I don't want to contribute less than 4 hours a week, as I think it would be hard for me to do any meaningful work under those conditions.
If you guys have any questions, please let me know!
Sincerely,
Pedro
