Hello, everybody!
My name is Carlos Valdez. I'm a fourth-year Informatics student from the University of California, Irvine. I've spent the last nearly four years at my school learning about programming, software design, testing, and more. My biggest accomplishment this far is getting to lead the Ojos Project, a research project with other students at my school where we aim to build a device for hospice management meant for caregivers.
I learned about the Fedora Project when I was trying to figure out which Linux distribution to use. Fedora Linux has the perfect blend of new technology and stability. I've been enjoying it for probably the last year or so.
I can't say I have *too* much experience with the FOSS community. I like using, and even prefer, open-source programs. I haven't contributed anything huge to FOSS that I didn't build.
As for my background/skills, I'm a bit all over the place. My degree focused a lot on UI/UX, but I've also worked on creating web APIs, websites, coding, software architecture, etc. For the most part, I *try* to use Linux, but I fall back to macOS when I have to. Some of my skills include Git, Python, Rust, React, NextJS, Tauri, Figma, Render, etc.
I haven't used mailing lists before, so this will be my first time interacting with one. My preferred real-time chat platform is Discord. I've helped with moderation before, but not forum moderation.
I'm eyeballing volunteering maybe 2 hours/week to start. As much as I'd like to do more, I think this is appropriate to begin.
Can't wait to help!
Best, Carlos
