Is there any place where we can provide input on considerations that
could be important for finalizing the date? It would be great not to
demoralize the planners by not giving input in time. Some
considerations I had in mind:
* Potential release dates for F21
(I've heard "not before August," but if it's in August then an
August 8-11 date at least might be crazy)
* Any colliding conferences or events we want to schedule around
(I'd love to see some folks around Flock who couldn't make it last
year due to GUADEC)
* The fiscal quarter at Red Hat which can affect our planning for
funds -- note that we are in the midst of planning budget right now
for FY 2015 (March 2014 - February 2015), so this could be critical
:-)
* Summer plans for those in EU, which are very important to many
contributors both with and without families :-)

Here's good. The biggest things we've been considering:
- date proximity to other conferences (in a good way: GUADEC, in a bad way,
things not nearby)
- Flock was always meant to be more tied to the release cycle, which has
been proving challenging

Additionally, the Desktop team at Red Hat has traditionally had
post-GUADEC team meetings, meaning that most of them weren't leaving for
home after GUADEC anyways.

From my point of view the split over two weeks was some what of a
problem. If we could have it either starting and finishing on the
weekend and the running into a single week it would be much better
from my PoV.

I'd say - not before *the end* of August, the last month before release
is always challenging. And it will be always hard to align Flock with
schedule...
One thing is - we don't know now, if F21 will follow old or new model,
what I'd really like to is one bigger Fedora event before we choose
the way but summer time is not a best date for this.
One local collision early September is Akademy, that's going to be
held in Brno - 6-12 September.

That's actually the reason why Akademy was moved to post summer dates
and if we want summer event, we have to live with that and do the
decision on final date as soon as possible, to allow planning in
advance.

a new model. What that means for release dates and schedules, I don't think
anyone knows yet. Since this is the first of a new thing, I think there's
probably room for fesco to decide schedules like: "Fedora has scheduled
flock for August 1-4. Therefore the earliest we could release is August
14th" All dates in the previous statement are examples only.

Yes, but it's to avoid overlapping Flock and release. For actual release,
it's way too late. So if we rephrase question - what would be the earliest
date to have Flock?
