Streaming sessions
by Ruth Suehle
Ooyala is going to help us with streaming Flock sessions. We just need
equipment. "Just." I'm trying to stretch budgets from everywhere just to
get all of Flock happening, so there's not a lot leftover for buying camera
equipment! Possibly some, but I don't think I can swing enough for nine
rooms.
Thus, two questions:
- Can anyone suggest reasonably inexpensive cameras I should look at
purchasing? Whatever is the least expensive that isn't going to be so low
quality, it's useless.
- Does anyone have a video camera suitable that you'd be willing to lend to
the cause? We'd have it set up in the rooms all day, but of course you're
welcome to take it back to your hotel for safekeeping at night.
Here's the information from Ooyala about how we can do the streaming. There
are two options:
1) Hook up a camera to a computer running a software encoder via USB
or Firewire. Many of our customers use Flash Media Live Encoder,
which is not open source. VLC might be an open source option here as
well, but I haven't personally used it in this setup.
2) Use a hardware encoder such as a Terradeck cube
(http://www.teradek.com/pages/cube). These can take input from SDI or
HDMI output on any camera and then re-encode them to push to a
streaming server at whichever provider you select.
Does anyone know whether VLC or something else is an option for #1? I think
the Teradek is prohibitively expensive, especially if we also have to buy
cameras.
Thanks!

Special event in Seth's memory
by Gianluca Sforna
Hi all, while still being shocked by the loss of Seth, I can't stop
thinking about doing some special event during the next flock.
I am sure we will have plenty of time to remember him privately, but
maybe a special homage is in order.
So, what about a cyclist flashmob during flock? I was thinking about a
(short?) symbolic bike ride from the college to some park or place of
worship, and maybe a prayer (if you are a believer). That would
require just to rent a few dozen bikes and determine a suitable
course.
If there are other ideas or you think this is crazy or completely
inappropriate, feel free to let me know

Fwd: Roomshare for flock?

If anyone is still looking for a roommate, Cole needs a room. :)

Hi,
So I was only approved for Flock travel funding late last week, and by the
time I tried to book yesterday the hotel was full up (at least on
Friday) and
now the promo code has expired.
Is there some official channel to find people with a room to share? Or
do either of you know someone who's looking for someone to split room cost?
And if it matters, I'm quiet, not smelly, and happy to sleep on the
floor if need be :)
Thanks,
Cole

Flock schedule change deadline July 9
by Josh Boyer
Hi All,
The schedule has been up for two weeks now, and we've had a few
requests for changes here and there. I believe we've been able to
accommodate all requests, and things have been quiet for the past few
days. However, we need to lock down the final schedule so that it can
be printed in the conference handouts, etc.
If you have any schedule change requests, please be sure to email them
to us before July 9th. Requests should have pretty strong reasoning
to move talks, etc.
Speakers, if you would like to see changes to your talk titles or
abstracts on the schedule site, please also get those in before July
9th.
Thanks,
josh

CSCLUG really excited that Flock is in Charleston!
by Zenko Klapko Jr.
Hi,
Charleston, SC Linux Users Group (CSCLUG) is really excited to have Flock
in Charleston! I haven't given up hope that I will install Fedora natively
on my macbook pro in time for the event. :) Other LUG members are talking
about the event and signing up. I've updated the www.csclug.org (
www.charlestonlinux.org) website to have a clickable graphic that will take
visitors to the Fedora Flock website. Let us know how the group can help
out, even if its as simple as recommending a place to eat. Can't wait to
attend the conference!

Canceling my flock attendance
by Fabian Affolter
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi guys,
I removed my myself from the Flock registration page one and a half
weeks ago as a precaution because Flock is right after my trip to
India for the bo translation effort. Now I know with certainty that I
can not make it to Flock. I'm very sorry but I have to cancel my
attendance.
So far I didn't manage to remove my proposals (one for a sprint [1]
and one for a hackfest [2]). Can please somebody remove those entries?
Thanks. I apologize to all people who are involved in the creation of
the schedule about the additional work.
Kind regards,
Fabian
