Hello all.
We had a small BBQ every night at the hotel at FUDcon Valencia and that was
great (yes, we had a pool so probably that made everything easier). Maybe
if we had an average list of how much would cost the small gatherings and a
bigger party could give us an idea how how much the difference could be.
Now, the opposite side was Tempe, where there was this last day party;
which left the other nights free for those people who had long time no see
or sharing projects to gather at smaller restaurants and discuss in a calm
and not too crowded environment.
If there will be every-night gatherings I would go careful not to take time
from all those potential contributions and meetings that are done usually
after the event.
See ya.

I've been working on a few possibilities for evening events
during Flock
with the help of some lovely locals. Of course, I'd rather spend as much
money as possible getting people to Flock, but I also want everyone to have
a great time and have some fun stuff happening outside of talks and
workshops. On the FUDCon model, we had one night (Saturday) where we had a
party that included dinner. The last few times had a lighter event on
Friday night as well in the hotel with pizza. (This option may not be as
cheap this time depending on the cost of the hotel space, which is an
extremely popular downtown hotel.)
With all that in mind, would you rather have smaller (i.e., less
expensive) planned evening events Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, or have
just one or two nights with a really great party?
Ruth
