We briefly discussed in the meeting today the possibility of charging
a
small registration fee. The benefits include:
- Money (of course)
- People are more likely to come even if they've paid just $5. Crazy, but
true. And knowing an actual number helps us *immensely* with planning.
- We can offer free registration as a perk for speakers and sponsors.
The question is, what is the right amount?
If the point of this is to get contributors then I'd say the right
amount is $0 for them. For other people you need to balance the cost
of the attendee against the attendee's peceived value and those are
both unknown. So any number is just picking a random number that might
feel reasonable.
While it was mentioned in the meeting today that a fee was now
possible I missed any discussion of planning to charge one for this
event. I really think we are making this event difficult enough to
attend without doing that now.
