Flock 2017 will likely be held in Cape Cod, Maine, USA from 28 August - 1 September (pending contract).
We received two great bids for Flock this year from two different groups of contributors for two very different places and times:
o Evansville, Indiana bid led by Nick Bebout (nb) with the help of Lee Keitel (keitellf) and USI supporters Dr. Mohammed Khayum and Richard Toeniskoetter.
o Cape Cod, Maine bid led by Máirín Duffy (duffy) and Solly Ross.
Both bids were detailed and represented a ton of hard work on the part of their submitters. Both bids have fantastic pluses and some challenges, and in the end we selected the Cape Cod bid based on a number of factors.
The formal announcement via the Fedora Magazine will be made once the contracts are finalized.
On behalf of the Flock Committee, thanks to all of our bidders.
Regards,
Flock Committee
To clarify, Cape Cod is now and has always been in Massachusetts. The prize for paying attention goes to spot.
regards,
bex

For those needing to come up with budgets for travel, will any meals for attendees be included in the bid itself? The writeup says it is an option, but there are no details or specifics.

It wasn't clear to me if we were planning to cover lunch or breakfast or not, but the proposal the resort put together for us has an attendees-on-their-own concession stand set up in the mornings from 7 am - 10 am + a daily lunch buffet.
LUNCH OPTIONS =============
The budget-wise option is a boxed lunch which is $12.95/pp + 15% service charge, 5% admin fee + 6.25% MA meal tax == $16.35/pp. This includes a choice ham, roast turkey, tuna salad, chicken caesar wrap, or vegetarian wrap (hummus/cucumber/sprouts/tabouleh) and I can make sure the veg option is also vegan.
Plated lunches range from $18.87 - $22.66 depending on the dish (most are $18.87) (all taxes / service fees included)
Buffet lunches are the most expensive option, from $22.66 - $26.44 depending on the option selected.
There's also restaurants in walking distance.
BREAKFAST OPTIONS =================
The breakfast options are (all taxes / service fees included):
Continental Breakfast $11.30/pp Mini Resort Breakfast (continental + fruit + eggs) $12.56/pp Breakfast Buffet (mini resort + bacon + sausage) $16.34/pp
MENUS =====
The Hyannis conference center menu is here: http://www.capecodresortandconferencecenter.com/wp-content/uploads/RCCHBanqu...
I also posted some menus/options under the evening event section - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Flock2017-CapeCod-proposal#Proposed_Evening_E...
But those are the least detailed out just because I used the info I was able to get without requesting formal quotes (which I can do now if we want?)

OK. The main question is if Flock is going to cover the costs of said meals, or if people need to account for that out-of-pocket. That's probably a question for the Flock committee and OSAS.

Out of curiosity, how do these costs compare to the restaurants close by?

The prices at restaurants really range based on quality / fanciness; I'm not 100% sure of the level of quality / fanciness for the venue's food (haven't tried it yet), but the prices aren't outrageous compared to options on Main St. You basically avoid the service charge if you go off-site.
Massachusetts meal tax is 6.25% and not factored in below. A selection of area restaurants, some are fancier than others:
Tap City Grille --------------- http://www.tapcitygrille.com/food-menu/
Pizzas, Sammies, Burgers - $12-15 Entrees - $16-22
Tumi Ceviche ------------- https://tumiceviche.com/
Ceviches - $9-15 Pastas/Risottos - $15-21 Entrada /Secondi - $20-29
Brazilian Grill --------------- http://braziliangrill-capecod.com/
$32.95 fixed
Roadhouse Cafe -------------- http://www.roadhousecafe.com/menu/
Sammies - $9-13 Pizza - $15-24 Entrees - $20-37
El Mariachi Loco ---------------- http://eat24hrs.com/restaurants/order2/menu.php?id=77815
$5-13
Colombo's Cafe -------------- http://www.colomboscafe.com/info/menus.php
Entrees - $18-28 Pasta - $18-20 Pizza - $13-16 Sammies - $11-14
Indian Pavilion --------------- http://www.pavilionindian.com/food-menu.html
Entrees - $12-15 Lunch Specials $8-9
Cheap eats options include a local pizza place and a papa john's around the corner as well as a Chinese place and a Subway.

Right now the full budget hasn't been set for Fedora for FY18 and as a result the budget for this event is not set. I'll post more details as soon as we have them. For now, I suggest you budget assuming that you will need to pay 50% of food costs in hopes that we will cover 100%.
