Hi,
Mary created a great design for the Flock t-shirt. We'll likely need ~6 weeks to get them produced based on past experience. We're at 10 weeks out, so we should probably soon figure out what we're going to do WRT T-shirts:
- Are we going to provide T-shirts or sell them?
- Do we have sponsors to list on the T-shirt? (The SuSE logo on the mockups is just a stand-in from a previous years' design)
- Do we want sponsors on the shirt?
Options for saving costs include cutting colors (saves you less) and cutting screens (saves you a little more, eg have a one-sided instead of 2-sided shirt). We can modify the design based on this as well if needed.

Provide. This is one of the things covered by the registration fee.

Dunno.
- Do we want sponsors on the shirt?
I kind of prefer not. These are a perk for Fedora contributors, not a place to advertise.

If we need to, one sided seems fine.

We have traditionally had these logos. If we are cutting them, I need to know so I can tell the couple of sponsors who are working on POs that there is a change.
If we are not cutting them and we have sponsors, I feel like all attendees should get a shirt, as much as possible.

I agree for another reason. If we have traditionally done this, it is a bit late in the game to tell sponsors we aren't anymore. We can do so for the next FLOCK starting out before we try to find sponsors. Nothing makes sponsors more likely to pull funding or not fund in the future than surprises late or after they have committed.

I would strongly advise against cutting sponsor logos on shirts. That is a very standard offering for event sponsors across events. Yes, we're marketing them, but that's why they're paying sponsorship money--to be recognized for the contributions in a tangible marketing way.

I understand that point, but I have a different view. :)
We want the Fedora t-shirts to be a special perk for contributors; something where they can take away to show their Fedora pride. While we value our sponsors, having other logos on the shirt detracts from that; it seems less special and more like vendor promo swag.

I will put this bluntly: finding sponsors for Flock is extremely difficult. It is very hard to describe what benefit they get from doing so other than community goodwill. The more you devalue their contribution, the less interested potential sponsors will be.
If you want Flock to be a 100% Red Hat sponsored event, fine. Just say so. If that's not your intention, then I suggest you rethink your request because you're going to drive it to that conclusion inadvertently.

From a contributor POV that exactly gets the point and a Fedora shirt (only Fedora) is still something very special. I got shirts from BarCamps with 3-4 sponsors on it, but beside it has less value for me, I am wearing it only at home. I understand Josh's point, but we want people to wear our Fedora shirt as often as they can. I don't think being on a shirt is a condition for sponsors to help Fedora, we can find many other and more effective ways to let people know who sponsored FLOCK. Don't make it too dramatic if we don't put them on our contributor shirt. Regards.

I agree with this sentiment, but agree that it is hard to reconcile this with sponsor value. Of the sponsors I am talking to right now, only one has communicated their understanding of value outside of association with open source (which is what the logo does).
With that in mind, I propose two things:
1. Because of the time and ongoing conversations, let's move forward with sponsor logos on shirts for this year for flock.
2. Let's consider whether we can budget to print a special edition Fedora-only shirt for attendees for next year. I suspect that we won't have budget to do it this year, but we can certainly look into it. It is, as I understand it, rare for our contributors to receive t-shirts "out of the blue." This is a chance to do that in the future. I realize this will mean that flock will probably have two shirts. I further suggest that we resolve that by saying we will print the fedora only shirt without regard to sponsorship and we will print a flock-themed fedora shirt only if there is a shirt sponsor.

I hope this is not a terrible idea - A reversible t-shirts, one side with only Fedora, flock logos and other side for sponsors logos).

I appreciate your thinking, but I believe this would also destroy sponsor value. I am also not sure it would be comfortable to wear the printing against my skin. At this point if we want to explore this, could you do research locally with printers and present it for next year's shirt?

Even I am not sure about the irritation on skin due to printings. But I will try to do more enquiry about it.
I will be organizing Pune QECamp, 2017 in September. I will order printed t-shrits around that time for QEs after meeting different vendors. I can ask about this idea too at that time, if that works.
