Great work on the wealth of info here, Brian. The price per person for coffee breaks, etc., is constant, and not dependent on the attendance number, correct? In other words, if we have 200 people attend vs. 250, the price would still be the same per head?
I'm liking these price points. Thanks for the research, Brian!

This is my understanding. I would strongly encourage us to negotiate this price. They have a minimum of 60, iirc.

Hi Bex,
Are the budget-owning people in the team agreed on a price target and working with you (and indirectly the vendor) at this point?
I know a few people were going to be off to SCaLE so didn't want this to get lost in the tumult.
Hey Paul,
Bex and I were actually texting as I got off plane in LAX. Just want to let you know that he's still getting some last minute changes done, but we won't lose track!

Paul,
The Save-the-date announcement is drafted up on the commblog, ready to push as soon as you folks tell us the ink is dry :)
Give the draft a once-over if you'd like, but otherwise, you can just give us the greenlight and we'll push. --RemyD.

I noted a few things (not blockers) on the list but haven't seen anything further.
Since no one has set this up as a firm date/time, and we previously agreed on Friday Jan-29, I'm going to work with Justin, Patrick, and others to have the announcement go ~10am EST (1500 UTC) tomorrow, Friday Jan-29. The website will be up at that point, and assuming the registration app is ready (which right now it looks to be) and Patrick is happy with it, we'll have links ready for people to register and submit talks.
This should be good. Contract is signed!

Fantastic! With the invaluable help of Justin Flory, Robert Mayr, and Patrick Uiterwijk, the websites will be live in just a few minutes, with registration and talk submissions open.
There are announcements scheduled for 1500 UTC posting on both Fedora Magazine and the Comm-ops blog.

WordPress is intended to be a publishing platform, not a collaboration one, thus the permissions thing here. Their "preview" function is tied up with their "edit" permissions. I just copied the content here:

There are still a few details we need for the flocktofedora.org website:
* Booking code for hotel (presumably we'll get this upon a signed contract) * Sponsorship -- need a set of levels (if we want these as guides), and a prospectus or at least contact instructions.
None of these block the site update that includes venue/date info. But we need these really soon, or else it will be an even bigger time crunch down the line.

Since I've done this before, I'll volunteer to coordinate sponsorship again this year, unless there are any objections.

None here, but I would also be happy to help get content onto the website. We have a page dedicated for sponsor info.
In fact, I was debating putting Red Hat up there to start, but I realized that I didn't have a classification for Shadowman (premier? platinum? overall moneymaker-shaker?).

Okay. I've finished the 2016 prospectus (attached). Let me know what you need to put on the website.

We've always called Red Hat platinum.

I have no problem with calling anyone else who wants to match that funding platinum as well. :)

Would it make sense to have some information about how Fedora benefits the wider community, and people who draw from that? ISTM that might be more attractive to potential sponsors ("what have you done for me lately?"). This might work in place of the section of details for content at Flock, after "...in person."
Some possible text: "The Fedora Project works vigorously with upstream projects to fix bugs and enhance the state of their software. This benefits downstream consumers and the entire open source community beyond just Fedora." What do you think?

OK, I'll put the logo up there with that label. As we add other sponsors it will be easy to do the same, if you (or whoever books a sponsor) gets in touch.

It's a personal tic, but I like to avoid calling people "consumers." What about, "The Fedora Project works closely with upstream projects to fix bugs, add features, and generally improve the state of software it depends on. This benefits not just Fedora users, but all users of the software and the wider open source community."
Best,

+1 for Joe's change. Excellent catch, in French, we have this quote "dans consommateur, il y a con" which could be nicely translated to "When someone says consumer, I hear they're trying to con me".

Is there a better word than "user". The only other industry which has "users" is the illegal drug market and well we all know how well they are treated by their pushers. I thought that consumer gave them some respect over being a slab of meat who I pushed whatever I wanted onto them. It also defined the relationship of those who are just wanting a product to work but aren't currently interested in or able to contributing to the product and community.
Best,
jzb

I try to use "audience" or something like that, but user is generally understood to be a neutral term for software/hardware.

No objection. In fact, what's the opposite of an objection? "Thanks", I suppose. :)
