The issue is fixed upstream and we backported the patch to be applicable to fontconfig-2.4.2 as well. There is an archive called smc-fonts-malayalam in smc upstream containing Rachana, Meera, Mal0tf fonts. Rachana, Meera are traditional scripts and Mal0tf is based on a new script.
