While filing the spec template, I have found that there is: %install rm -fr %{buildroot} but the buildroot is now cleaned automatically so the `rm` command should not be present. Please update the spec templates according to the latest guidelines. Also note that there may be other deviations from current packaging guidelines that I have overlooked ... You can not remove old fonts because better one appeared, no one wants to re-layout existing documents. The package literally has no other purpose. Emoji fonts are different than regular fonts. If they are not updated every single year (with the current pace for Unicode), then they will quickly become out of date and useless. As was recommended in comment #1, I suggest the Symbola font if someone wants a black and white font. We have lots of fonts that haven’t been updated for years, but that doesn’t necessarily make them useless. I agree it’s not a great emoji font nowadays, but, users being users, I expect some have a preference for it nonetheless.
