If somehow you do not want to depend on STIX submit patches to add the needed symbols to dejavu (dejavu.sf.net) since dejavu is already distributed with OO.o and should already contain many math symbol at the official unicode.org codepoints
I'm also quite annoyed by missing symbols.
I've been to DejaVu website and clicked around to see if there's any list showing what Unicode characters are supported by which DejaVu font but I failed to find such list. However, in STIX website, such list exists and it's easy to find.
On the other hand, STIX seems to be a general, human languages-oriented font rather than a mathematics-oriented font like STIX. So I wonder if "adding more math symbols" is the first priority for DejaVu.
Well, as a simple user, what I'd really care is whether my math expression is shown or not. I have no interest to get into any font war among OpenSymbol, DejaVu and STIX. It would be nice if they could combine symbols into official font, or drop the font if other fonts have better support (ie they have more symbols).
